Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation

Are you getting the error: Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation. Learn how to solve.

Today I was trying to install Windows 8 Enterprise Edition RTM 90 day trial on a brand new Laptop from ASUS. I was recording the installation for a video tutorial for Windows 8. I landed into this strange and unexpected error during the installation:

Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation.

This installation error happens after Windows 8 Operating System installation starts and complete copying the files for installation. The error message appears about 10 minutes after the installation of Windows 8 from the DVD.

If you are receiving the same error, most probably it is because your disk is corrupt or could be a result of a failed past installation of Windows 8.

The solution that worked for me to resolve this error was, delete the disk partition and recreate it. Windows 8 installation completed successfully after I recreated the partition.

Here is my scenario which resulted in this error:

1. I am using a brand new Asus Laptop with Intel Pentium processor.

2. This Laptop had only DOS OS preinstalled.

3. I am installing Windows 8 Enterprise RTM edition 90 day trial version.

4. I formatted the hard drive, created 2 partitions and I am installing Windows 8 OS on a partition with 150 GB space.

Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation

So, finally this is what I did to get rid of the error 'Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation.':

I deleted the disk partition and recreated. I tried to reinstall Windows 8 after recreating the partition and the error was gone.

Did you also get this error? Try the solution I explained above and let me know if that worked.

Hi dear,

Sorry for that problem here is the solution please make sure that the installation media is not corrupted in this situation.

Or do you have a preinstalled Windows in the mahcine? Use that installed system to check the health of the disk installed in the mahcine.

Many users have said that their Windows Could Not Prepare the Computer to Boot into the Next Phase of Installation and they feel irritated by this issue. There are many reasons of this issue like many unnecessary devices that are plugged in, System file corruption is causing the issue, BIOS does not support the Windows version and many others. We have some methods to solve this issue -
1- Verify if BIOS suits the Windows version : You can confirm it by calling your warranty service or browse online to see in case the BIOS model on your PC suits the Windows version that you're trying to install. Just install the newest version and hopefully this error would be fixed.

2 Removing all partitions:

i). Here you are supposed to create a Windows System Image backup before you continue with the removal of all partitions that are accessible.

ii). After backup reboot your system and force your computer to boot from the installation media. The time you are on the screen where you get to pick where to install the OS, remove all partitions that are accessible and make new ones from the unallocated space.

iii). Now continue with the Windows installation the way you do and we hope your issue has been solved.
