What to do when a USB device not recognised in Windows 7
Are you getting the error message "USB device not recognized" when ever you connect a USB device like mouse, keyboard or other USB device? Let us see what could be the problem and how to fix the problem.
Some times your computer stops recognizing the USB devices. When ever you connect a USB device ( like pen drive) it does not get recognized. The problem is not with the USB device.
One of the solutions to this kind of problem is that you should go to Device Manager and uninstall all of the devices under USB controllers. Restart the computer and reinstall the USB drivers. If this works out, it is OK. Other wise there is a simple solution to fix this problem.
The simple way to fix this kind of problem is to just unplug your computer from the power supply. This does not mean that you should just turn off your computer because the latest computers really do not turn off because the mother board still gets the power. The mother board is the place where all the hardware of the computer is connected including the USB ports.
So you need to first turn off your computer using the Shut Down command and then unplug it from the power socket. Wait for a minute or so. Again connect the power to your computer and see if it is working. The drivers of the USB ports will be reloaded once the computer is powered on and it starts recognising the USB devices.

This error with USB devices it's because one of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed. This can be because of corruption in one of the loaded drivers The driver cache just needs to be flushed. Unplugging the computer sometimes doesn't resolve the problem because the battery still holds power.
