Missing Freecell, Solitaire and other games in Windows 7- What to do?


FreeCell and Solitaire games are a part of games that come installed along with Windows 7 operating system. But if your games folder is empty without any games listed in them, what to do? This article explains how to see the missing games in the Games folder in Windows 7 computer.

Have you installed Windows 7 operating system? But you have found that the games like solitaire and Freecell etc. are not found in Program Files/Games. Where did these games go? FreeCell and Solitaire games are a part of games that come installed along with the Windows 7 operating system. But if your games folder is empty without any games listed in them, what to do?

There is a way to enable the games in Windows 7. Please follow the steps given below to turn on the games in Windows 7.
  1. First Click on 'Start' button and click on 'Control Panel'
  2. Now click on 'Programs' in Control Panel
  3. Now select 'Windows features on or off' under the heading 'Programs and Features'. See a screen shot below.

  5. You will see a Windows Features dioalog box. Now you have to check the checkbox labelled 'Games' and click on 'OK' button. See the screen shot given below.

  7. That is all, now you will be able to see the games listed when you go to Start -> Games.

Still having troubles?

If you're still having trouble playing solitaire on Windows 7 or other updated new like Windows 10 or 11, there are fortunately a number of browser-based alternatives that allow you to play on your desktop or phone. Solitaired has a version of FreeCell that comes with a game of the day and leaderboard, and AARP has a variety of solitaire games.

Most of the standard Windows Games are present but Freecell is not. Freecell is the one I want to recover. There is a Freecell icon in the list of games, but it has a red NoGo sign attached. Clicking on this icon produces no result.

Turning the Windows features on or off is NOT working for me. Free Cell is checked in the features list but is not in my Games folder in the Start menu at all. I'll keep searching until something works.
