Need quick updates on your smartphone of FSSAI regulations? This article provides information of the new FoodSafetyHelpline app for those in the food business sector. The app provides the latest developments of FSSAI regulations as also a self-inspection tool.

For those in the food business, whether in manufacturing, processing, retailing, supplying or even those operating a restaurant, it is essential to know all the requisite standards and regulations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The FSSAI standards ensure that the consumer is getting hygienic and safe food products.

FoodSafetyHelpline.com was set up by the team of Auriga Research to provide one common platform for the entire community of people involved with the food business. Last month, the team launched the food safety mobile app. This helpline app, available for Android smartphone users, provides the latest updates on the FSSAI policies and regulations. Additionally, it incorporates a very useful tool for self-monitoring one's own business.

FoodSafetyHelpline app features

The app has got 3 distinct sections, namely blogs, videos and inspection tools.

The blogs

These are not frivolous blogs but very in-depth informative ones which are up-to-date on the latest FSSAI developments. They thus ensure that you are at any time current with the FSSAI regulations. The blog posts are also packed with content on a wide variety of topics ranging from packing and putting labels on your products to measures on preventing contamination and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety.

The webinars

These online seminars (known as webinars) are in video format. They provide very lucid details on significant issues such as licenses, registration, labelling, etc.

The tools

The app incorporates a unique food inspection tool. This tool enables you to know whether or not your food business is operating along the requisite regulatory guidelines by identifying any aspects where it is found wanting and helping out to fill in those gaps. What you do is fill up the self-inspection form provided by the app and generate the report based on the answers you filled in. An alternate option is to use the assisted inspection feature, wherein after you fill in the inspection form, do the inspection yourself and get it reviewed by the food safety helpline team for feedback. With the third option of expert inspection, the team will respond at your email contact.

The app thus benefits in multiple ways:
  • You have a ready safety audit tool of your food business whenever you want.
  • You can generate an automated report.
  • You can cover a wide range of locations of your food business
  • You can know whether your license is valid or needs to be renewed soon
  • You can quickly take the necessary corrective action to plug in any gaps with regard to safety and hygiene.

App requirements

  • The current Version is FoodSafetyHelpline 1.4

  • It will require Android 2.2 and up

  • It occupies 3.1M space

Price: The In-app Products' price tags range from Rs. 50/- to a maximum of Rs. 8,000/- per item.

User feedback: Since this is a recently launched app there are no first-hand user reviews of the app. However, based solely on what the app provides, one can safely say that it will surely do away with the necessity of hiring a professional safety Inspector!

To sum up, the FoodSafetyHelpline app is a useful learning, training and self-monitoring platform for all those having a business in the food and hospitality sectors.
