Identify the best keywords for your content

In this chapter, you will learn how to identify the best keywords for your article and how to take maximum advantage of SEO by tuning your article for the selected keywords.

Before you start writing an article, think about the potential words that people will search and relevant to your topic.

For example, if you are writing an article about how to cook coffee, what are the potential terms that people would search for?

People rarely use "how to cook coffee". Instead, most people would search for "How to make coffee".

So, your title should be "how to make coffee".

Also, there are other relevant keywords that have the potential to get search traffic.

Examples:

Health benefits of coffee
Coffee recipe
Coffee maker

You may optimize your article on all of the above keywords. However, you should focus primarily on a single keyword, which is "how to make coffee" in this case.

How to Optimize your article for selected keywords

After you identify your keywords for the article, you must optimize the full content around those keywords.

1. Use the keyword in the main page title

2. Use the keyword in the browser title (Some sites use page heading and browser title both same and you will not be able to change it)

3. Try to use the keywords in some of the headings within the text

4. Use the keywords few times within the article in a meaningful manner, without going to the extend of keyword spamming.

5. Use the HTML tags like <b> to highlight some of the keywords and let search engines know that the keywords are the important part of the particle.

6. Avoid highlighting non relevant words in the article. That will confuse search engines. See this example:

Coffee is one of the best drinks to keep you healthy

In the above line, the words "keep you healthy" is underlined. Even though the words "keep you healthy" is important for a reader, it will make the search engines think that this article is all about "health". A better idea is to highlight the word "coffee" because the article is all about coffee.

Remember that Coffee can keep you healthy and avoid many health issues.

7. Avoid or reduce non relevant headings. For example, if you are writing an article about making coffee and want to write about coffee with breakfast, avoid headings like "Make better breakfast". This heading will make search engines think that this article is about breakfast. Instead, tune the heading with proper keywords in it. A better heading will be "Coffee can make your breakfast better".
