Introduction
OST file is nothing but a local copy of the mailbox stored in the users' computer. Renaming and creating OST file becomes important in fixing the issues encountered with MS Outlook. This is one of the most effective troubleshooting methods while fixing the issues with outlook if it shows disconnected.
This method is also used if outlook calendar doesn't display free busy information of the users. Renaming OST will fix the issue instantly.
Apart from the above two situations, creating or renaming OST file also fixes the issue of the outlook like emails not received or sent if the mailbox size does not exceed and if outlook freezes.
I have posted outlook related articles on TEC and related issues and resolution to them. Please see the below link. There are many sub links to this link which reveal a lot of issue resolution for the users.
