Karbonn and Micromax recently introduced the Titanium S5 and Canvas HD A116 respectively. The Micromax Canvas HD A116 was first to hit the market. When it comes to processing power both smartphones are equally equipped. They run on quad core processors with 1.2 GHz CPU clock speed, the only major difference being the chipsets they use. The Qualcomm Snapdragon series is used in the Titanium S5 and the Canvas HD A 116 uses MediaTek MT 6589 Cortex A processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz.

Mobile Operating System

The Titanium S5 and the Canvas HD A 116 both use the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. This places the phones on the same footing not just with each other but also with all the other reputed and admired brands.


The Karbonn Titanium S5 has a swanky 5.0 inch qHD IPS 9 (In-Plane Switching) multi – touch capacitive screen with an impressive resolution of 540x960p. The Micromax Canvas HD A 116 on the other hand sports a 5.0 inch IPS - LCD screen with a slightly higher resolution of 720px1280p HD display. It has a pixel density of 294 per inch which is superior to that of the Titanium S5.


Similarities between the phones can be observed in the cameras installed. The rear camera in the Karbonn smartphone is 8.0 megapixels. An added advantage is that it offers flash support and Auto-focus. The phone has a front 2.0 megapixels camera too. The Micromax has an 8.0 Megapixels main camera as well and a front camera of 2.0 megapixels VGA (Video Graphics Array).

The pioneering and innovative Android OS installed in both the smartphone's gives them an advantage with over 650,000 interesting, entertaining and useful applications that can be downloaded by the users.

Both brands offer other features that are comparable, such as the 1 GB RAM.

The Canvas has a storage capacity of 4GB which is expandable up to 32GB.

The Titanium S5 also has a similar 4GB ROM which is also expandable up to 32GB.

The battery capacity of the Karbonn smartphone is 2000mAh and that of the Micromax model is 2100 mAh.

Both smartphones offer 2G and 3G network compatibility.

Price – the determining factor
There is slight variation in pricing of the Titanium S5 and Canvas HD A 116. The smartphone from the house of Karbonn is priced at a low of INR 11,990 and the Micromax variant comes at INR 13,999 with rumours doing rounds that the price might soon go up by a few hundreds.
