How to Install AOKP Android 4.2.1 ROM on Nexus 4

AOKP is Android KANG Project based Rom, preferred by users due to its clean interface and popularity as they are used by CyanogenMod Team. Nexus 4 users can update their device to latest Android 4.2.1 ROM launched officially by the AOKP team. For this, you will need a rooted Nexus 4 with custom recovery installed. This latest version will bring features like LED notification control, modded navigation bar and CPU overclocking.

Warning: Installing a custom ROM needs root access of your device and as you know, rooting voids warranty. Therefore, everything lies upon owner's discretion.

Guide to Install AOKP Android 4.2.1 ROM on Nexus 4:


Step 1: This article should only be tried with Google Nexus 4.

Step 2: You should charge your device to attain at least 70% charge, so that there will be no Power interruption during the process.

Step 3: You should backup all valuable data on your phone, so that there is no data loss during the process.

Step 4: Disable all Security programs like Antivirus and from your computer and uninstall the same from your phone, as these security programs generally tend to interrupt the process.

Step 5: Enable USB Debugging in your 
Google Nexus 4 from the path "Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging". The option of USB Debugging should be ticked.

Step 6: Download the ROM File and Google Apps Package from here to your computer. Place both the downloaded files onto t1he root directory of your phone's SD Card.

Step 7: Reboot your phone so as to enter in Recovery Mode. To do so, when your phone is OFF, press and hold down Volume Down + Volume Up + Power buttons together until the screen turns ON.

Step 8: Create a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM so that you can revert the same whenever you want.

Step 9: Now, again from the main recovery menu, select "wipe data factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" to clear all the cache data's on your phone.

Step 10: Next, again from the main recovery menu, select "install zip from SD card" then select "choose zip from SDdcard" and then choose the ROM File you've placed on the SD Card.

Step 11: When the installation process has completed, flash the Google Apps Package in the same manner as you've flashed the ROM file.

Step 12: As soon as the installation process for "Gapps Package" has completed, select "+++++Go Back+++++" and then select "reboot system now" to reboot your phone.
