How to turn off automatic login on Mac OS x lion ( 10.7.5 )

Here's the quick tutorial on how we can turn On or Off the automatic login features on startup. Apple mac has an option to turn on or Off the automatically login on startup, this tutorial will guide you through steps for same.

Does your mac automatically log you in on each startup ? even you have secured your account with a password, Some time apple turn on the setting which automatically logs you into the system to save your time and efforts to enter a password each time you switch on your mac. Thats a good thing when used on your private mac, when no other person than you has a physical access to your mac you can safely turn that feature on to automatically log in upon startup. But what if your mac is publicly accessible, your friends handles your mac then you must think to secure your mac with a login password, and turn off the feature which log you in automatically on each startup.

Here are few simple steps you can follow to either turn on or off this feature.

Step 1 : Open your system preference -
You can actually open the system preference by many ways one of the quickest way is to open it by directly typing name - "System Preference" in the spotlight ( search icon available in top right corner ). Or you can open the System Preference by clicking on apple icon located at top left corner of your screen and choosing the name from drop down menu. The System preference also can be opened browsing the application directory.

Step 2 : Open the User and Groups Setting page -
Then you'll find the user and Groups settings located under System Settings as shown in figure. Now you have to choose the option - " Login Options ".
If you find all the options grayed out ( not selectable ) then you might have been locked out the settings, you can unlock it by clicking on LOCK icon located in bottom - left corner, then you may have to enter your password.

Turn on automatically login on or off

Step 3 : Turn the automatic login OFF / ON -
When you click on the login options button, you'll find various settings on right part of system preference panel. Find an option named - "Automatic login" and select "OFF" for it to completely turn of the automatic singin on startup. Or you can choose username to turn on the automatic login for any user.
