How to check the temperature of CPU in your computer

Do you feel your laptop is getting very hot? Learn how to check the temperature of your CPU and take steps to keep it cool.

Most people will place their hands at the exhaust vents on the side or bottom of the laptop to check the heat. Well, even though it can give you a feel of the temperature, it is not an accurate measurement of the heat your CPU gets. It is important to keep your CPUs under a reasonable temperature for better life for them. Also, at very high temperature, the performance of CPU can be affected.

How to check the temperature of CPU

There are several tools available to check the operating temperature of CPUs. Obviously, opening your laptop and checking the temperature using physical devices are not feasible since the temperature will be reduced when you expose the CPU by opening the laptop cover.

In this post, I will introduce 2 applications that can be used to check the monitor of your CPU core.

Speccy System Information tool from Piriform

Speccy is a nice little program that shows a lot of hidden system information from your Windows PC. It is from Piriform, the same company which makes everybody's favorite Windows cleanup utility called "CCleaner".

Speccy shows a lot of information about your Windows computer, which include the CPU core temperature. Take a look at the screenshot below. It shows the temperature of all 4 cores of the CPU.

The temperature is indicated with color code text to let you know if the heat is at acceptable level. In the image above, it shows the temperature below with Yellow color and the 4th core is showing bit elevated temperature, which is shown with orange color.
