Google Panda Update - Recover from Panda Penalty

Google released another Panda algorithm update on November 5th. Learn more about the latest Google Panda Update and find how to recover if your traffic is affected.

I was closly watching the traffic of Techulator.com last few days since I filed several DMCA complaints to Google. Google started responding to my notices and the status of complaints in the DMCA dashboard indicated hundreds of infringing pages were removed from Google index recently. All of a sudden, I noticed a big spike in our traffic yesterday, which I thought is a result of my DMCA complaints but later realized it is another Panda update from Google.

Thanks to Google, you have done justice to me once again.

Even though I have seen minor impact on many of our sites for each algorithm update, this is the biggest impact I have ever seen. (The recent EMD update combined with a Panda update made some significant negative impact for few of our small sites and I wrote an article on how to recover from EMD update penalty.)

Here is our traffic graph that shows the increase in traffic after the latest Panda refresh in November:

Traffic change after the Panda update

You can see that our traffic has been going up slowly last several days, probably due to the massive DMCA complains we reported. But there is a clear difference on Nov 5th, which is an indication of the Panda effect. I looked at the traffic of individual articles and there is no significant difference on any specific pages. The traffic improvement is spread across various articles, which I think is caused by an overall improvement in the search engine ranking of our content. I did compare our search engine ranking with various competitor sites and our position looks much better than it was in the past. Learn how to compare your search engine ranking with competitors.

Latest Panda update announcement from Google

On 6th November, Google made an announcement through twitter that they are rolling out a new Panda update. But I believe the update has already taken effect since I see the impact on our traffic.

Latest Panda Update

As usual, the tweet links to an old Google blog that talks about their efforts to improve the quality of search results.

SearchEngineLand, a premier SEO website has reported that Google confirmed to them about the Panda update on Nov 6th. They are calling it the "Panda Update 21", according to the serial numbers assigned to the known Panda updates. All of the earlier algorithm updates from Google were meant to reduce ranking for low value sites and give higher ranking for high quality sites. Many webmasters have reported that their quality sites were negatively affected, but in general, the updates have helped the web reduce web spam and improve the quality of Google search results.
