10 quick facts about iPod Nano, iPod Touch and iPod Mini

This article gives you 10 quick fire facts about the iPod Nano, the iPod Touch and the new iPod Mini range. Read on to learn about the popular devices from Apple.

There's a lot happening in Apple-ville. The thin shiny new iPod Nano is going down well, the new iPod Touch complements it. Here are some of the facts about the two. Also, Apple's new iPad Mini is all set to launch. As we have been patiently holding our breaths in anticipation of an announcement of the release date, iPhone has kindly been obliging all of us with leaks and little tidbits of info about the new tablet that we're sharing here, though there are few hard facts to go on. In addition, we take a look at iOS 6 for iPhones, iPads and iPods.

iPod Nano features

The 7th generation iPod Nano is thinner than it's ever been at a stunning two tenths of an inch, and combines the best of all that came before. iPhone dramatically redesigned the traditional iPod for this one, and gave it a larger screen at 240 by 432 pixels, an aluminum body in plenty of colors, square-off corners, a highly usable iOS interface, and the ability to play video. In fact, the iPod Nano seems to be a miniature version of the new iPod Touch.

The new iPod Touch

Apple's new Fifth-Generation iPod Touch is thinner, cheaper, and telephone-free. It also comes with a faster A5 chip, a 4 inch connector like the new iPhone 5. Bluetooth 4, support for AirPLay Mirroring and Siri are all part of this new package. And bundled in a variety of colors and Apple's new EarPods for headphones, it is set up with the new iOS6 system. We expect that it will be perceived as the best iPod Touch ever so far, which keeps Apple at the top of their game.

iPad Mini pre-launch rumor mills

Early this month, even before Apple had announced that the iPad Mini was planned, there were rumors of supply shortages flying around. Smaller iPads had been expected for a while, despite late Steve Jobs' famous statement that the seven-inch tablets would be "dead on arrival". A long-time leader of the 9-inch tablet market, it wasn't to be long before the giant would meet its competitors - Kindle's 7-inch Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble's 7-inch Nook Tablet - on their own grounds. We had seen such rumors for a year before the iPhone 5 was launched, just weeks ago. It seems Apple will continue to keep us glued to their updates for whatever we can glean, rather how we scour the Homeland episode previews every Sunday for any hint of next week's episode to help ease the tense anticipation.

iPad Mini: When it's out

The model was to originally launch on October 17 according to a report in Fortune, but there have been no launch invitations sent out so far. The new date for launch is now believed to be October 23, according to a new report. Speculation is rife about whether there will be a launch event at all.

Ipad Mini models

Hints about the 7.85 inch iPad Mini have been flying around, with some iPad photo leaks. There is not much to go on, but we have come up with an idea of what the iPad Mini may be. A rumored inventory posted on a tech website suggests the tablet will have 16 different models. This includes the four different storage options - 64 GB, 32 GB, 16 GB and 8 GB. These will be available either in white or black with options for only Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cellular bringing the number of possible combinations up to 16. The image doesn't confirm whether mobile data is 3G or whether it is 4G, however the common assumption is that it will be 4G.

iPad Mini specs

It's rumored that the iPad Mini will have an IGZO display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and a 330 ppi screen. It is also expected to feature Apple's new operating system the iOS6. The new OS will mean better maps and integration with Facebook, better mobile data video conferencing among other things. It will also probably have a thinner bezel and smaller dock connector.

iPad Mini price rumors

It has been estimated by several experts that the tablet will sell for more than the Nexus 7 but less than the iPad, at prices between $249 and $299 in the US. This translates as £250 to £300 in the UK, since Apple products have been seen to cost the same in the UK as in the US, Dollar over the pound.

iOS6 features

Apple claimed at the recent iOS6 launch that the OS came with almost two hundred new features. This includes a Google-free map app, a savvier Siri offering sports stats, restaurant reviews and imdb movie ratings, smooth Facebook integration, iCloud for photo streaming, a passbook app, a smarter Safari, and VIP mail.

Some iOS6 glitches

But there are some things the iOS6 could have done better, we think. Siri still has some bugs, but it now comes with an excellent voice-control recognizing various accents. The Maps app however had glitches, such as misplaced points of interest, for which CEO Tim Cook apologized last month.

Glimpse of Google Maps app trouble for iOS6

This is when Google decided to one-up Apple and prove that they're the bosses of map apps. Google has come out with a new map app for iOS 6 and leaked details suggest that the app will be 'vector based', will be formatted for the 4-inch display of the iPhone and have 'two-finger rotation' for all angles. This is great news for all iPhone users who have struggled with the lack of a good map for their phones.
