Japanese consumer Electronics Company AKAI has launched a device to enable internet surfing on the television. This device is named as the "Smart box" and is priced at Rs.6590 in India.

The Smart box is compatible with all television models like CRT, LCD and LED. It is an Android based device and uses Android version 2.3 (Ginger bread). It allows the user to surf internet, watch videos, play games, check e-mails, listen to music, login to Facebook and various other social networking websites and use Android apps from the Android market. For easy navigation, Smart box is provided with a wireless mouse that makes it easy to use. The device can be connected to the internet using LAN, Wi-Fi as well as 3G. It can also be used as a router through which other devices can be connected to use the internet like laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
