In this article, I will explain the strange and weird device, NF-300i by Nikon.
Display of NF-300i
This device is like tablet. Its display is LCD with lenticular lens and 7.2 inch screen. That means 800x600 pixels. It also work in 2D mode. And you can view your 2D images in to 3D by using this device. The display technology is same as that of Nintendo 3DS.
Operating System of NF-300i
Android is a free Operating System from Google with lot of applications. This device is running on the Android Operating System. Version is 2.1 and also can show all sorts of services like RSS, weather, etc.
Memory of NF-300i
Its internal memory is 4GB. This is one of the plus point of this device.
Connectivity of NF-300i
It has some special features like tablet. They are USB socket, and Ethernet and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi to show pictures from the Web. It is also known as My PictureTown 3D. Because it supports cloud service. That means you can store your images to cloud. But this service is not free. First, you need to sign up with Nikon for the new My Picturetown 3D service, which costs $247 for one year or $25 per month. After purchasing you need to upload any 2D photos to the cloud service where you can choose to have them converted to 3D, via an unspecified method that requires no special effort from you. Then you can download and view the photos by using this device. This is one of the disadvantage of this device. You can use WiFi or Ethernet to connect with cloud. Another disadvantage of this device has only available in Japan. You can display images full WSVGA resolution. USB port is the another plus point of this device. So you can transfer images from PC to NF-300i.
Special feature of NF-300i
Widgets are the special features of this device. It is not a touch screen device. Its display is good. And also it has no keypad. You can see 3D images directly, that is no need to use 3D glasses. Also, you can pay per image. It required $3.70 per image. Now there are many technologies to store images in some free cloud services. So this is worse. So this is not good device. Nikon is a good digital camera company. But the main plus point is Android Operating System. But 2.1 is a old version. Now the latest version is 4.1 Jelly Bean. 2.3 is a good version in case of Android. Some applications required at 2.3 version minimum.
The pixels are covers with tiny cylindrical lenses. It doubles the horizontal resolution. To work this device you need a remote. This is a painful feature. Also a negative mark. Its display ratio is 4:3. It supports audio and video files. Video means high quality like H.264. Also, it supports image files like JPEG and MPO. MPO extension files means 3D images. You cannot convert your 2D images to 3D images directly. To convert you will use cloud services. That means you will upload your 2D images to cloud service. Then cloud service convert 2D into 3D. After that you need to download that files from cloud service. That service is called My PictureTown 3D.
