We use mobile phones in our daily life for making calls, sending sms and browsing the internet. We spend a lot of money for all these activities. At present, GSM network is used worldwide as a standard for mobile communication.
Recently, a research has been carried out to build an open wireless network that can work along with the existing GSM network devices and provide a low cost solution for mobile communication. This open network is named as "Memmoo network" and is proposed to launch in Kochi in a mobile phome called "Memmoo".

KloudPad, a British mobile electronics convergence brand, is planning to launch a non GSM based open wireless phone network for the people in Kochi. It will be the first open Wireless Network for mobile phones and will not rely on existing GSM networks. The launch will take place in Kochi through a phone named "Memmoo". Memmoo will be the first social network mobile phone without a GSM network. It will use an open wireless network which is a lot cheaper than the existing GSM network.
The announcement was made at the Emerging Kerala investor meet conducted at Kochi. After meeting, it was decided to set up the infrastructure for the first operation at a start up village in Kochi. The R&D centre and a product development centre will be set up in that village for this purpose.Implementation challenges
The biggest challenge was to implement a Software that can run on existing mobile devices and can connect to the peer to peer mesh. Also the network should not rely on the existing GSM network (that is currently used worldwide). All this has to be done with a cost effective solution. To be feasible, it should run at the cost lower than the current GSM network and the implementation cost should also be considerably less. The beginning of the project
The idea of "open wireless mobile network" was proposed by Austrian Professor P. Rapagic, at the University of Greenwich in Britain. The research started in late 2010. The initial idea was to establish a private wireless data sharing network for the students in Greenwich university by using the WiFi network spectrum.
In 2011, the team decided to take this research to a wider area by making it available to the general public. The team collaborated with Villagetelco and "Mesh Potato" technology to build a low cost open wireless network for the general public.Features offered by Memmoo network
Memmoo will offer low cost solution for public communication. It will be like a social network where people have a lot of possibilities. The network will offer the following features :
Memmoo for the people
People will come to know about the advantages of using a Memmoo network when it will be launched in Kochi. It is a low cost open wireless network. So, it will allow them to make phone calls at much cheaper rates. The concept of Memmoo is one world, one network. There is no need to connect to the nearest tower to utilize the network. You just need to create a Memmoo profile and you will be able to interact with your friends.
