How to convert .MTS and .M2TS files to .MPG using HD Writer AE software

I have been using a Panasonic HD TM-60 camcorder for a while. It is an amazing camcorder at a very reasonable price. I bought it BestBuy in USA. The video recording quality is superb even though it is not comparable with other high end video recorders.
This Panasonic HD camcorder records video in .MTS format, which is a High-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format popularly known as AVCHD. The name AVCHD stands for "Advanced Video Codec High Definition".
Most of the modern video players on your PC can play the .MTS files and so I did not have any issues so far. Couple of days ago, I wanted to upload a video review to YouTube. It was the review of an LG Optimus 4X HD Smartphone which we recorded using the Panasonic HD TM-60 camera. We quickly realized we don't have a video converter to convert the .MTS format to any of standard formats supported by YouTube. I downloaded a couple of free video converters hoping that will do the trick, all I got was some malware.
A quick search and couple of phone calls to Panasonic customer supporter confirmed the best way to convert .MTS video files to .MPEG format is to use the free HD Writer AE software that came with the video camera. But unfortunately, HD Write AE program was not available for download anywhere including Panasonic official download site. Only related software I could find was some installers for the software update for it, which can be used to install latest updates if you already have the program installed. How to convert .MTS format or .M2Ts format to MPEG using HD Writer AE 2.0?
Even though I like the Panasonic HD TM-60 camcoder, I was not impressed with the Writer software that came with it. It looked like written by some student trainees. The warnings and messages from the software are very awkward and options are confusing. I went through almost all menu options looking for the tools to convert .MTS files to .MPEG files. Finally I had to look at the user manual to locate the menu item that I skipped thinking it cannot be the right one.
Steps to convert the video:
1. Open HD Writer AE software
2. Choose the option "Copy to PC".
3. Choose your camera's memory unit and select the videos to be copied/converted.
4. Complete the wizard. It will copy your videos from your camera to your computer. The files are stored in the camera in .MTS format, but when they are moved to the computer, they will be converted to .M2TS format.
Now, you can select the .M2TS files and convert them to .MPG format.\
1. Click on the menu Tools > Move > MPEG-2 Conversion
2. Select the source files in .M2TS format from the leftbar. I could not find a way to select a source file from the video camera directly. It appears that we need to copy the video files from camcorder to the computer first before we can do this conversion. This can be done using the "Copy to PC" menu option in the HD Writer software. The files are stored in the camera memory in .MTS format, but the Copy to Computer option will convert it into .M2TS format.
3. After selecting the source files to be converted, click on "Next" to continue. In this step, you can select the target folder where you want the converted MPEG files to be saved. Choose other parameters according to your preference.
Once you select all the options, click "Execute". This will start the video conversion process. Depending on the length of your video, it may take several minutes to few hours.

I bought a Panasonic HD camcorder with the HD Writer AE 5.0 Software & produced a movie. I save my finished movie onto C-Drive of my Alienware 3-D laptop. How do I convert the finished product on my C-drive to a DVD? Thank you.
