Very good news for one who has desire to have a compact laptop which supports multimedia. Toshiba America Inc., has launched its new satellite series "Toshiba Satellite L740" which is compact, fashionable and affordable PC which is ideal for students, families and small business who want power and portability with an extra room.

Designing and Display Features of Toshiba Satellite L740 Laptop

The Satellite L740 comes with a LED display, has a glossy black look all over the lid and around the keyboard panel with a 3D dot pattern which may not serve decent look but for one who want a fashionable look got its attention. Like any other glossy finish body laptop's it too is more prone to dust and figure print marks are visible. The key pad is smooth and is more users friendly. Above the key pad there is a stereo speakers and the power key. The LAN port HDMI out, 2 USB ports the head phone and mike jacks are on left side of base. A cooling outlet is there as well. On right side optical drive, another USB port and the DVI connection can be seen. To the left above the key pad the group of notification lights for charge connection, power, battery, Wi-Fi and memory card are not marked very well. This is confusing for a user to know which one is meant for what.

The 14 inch display is the basic LED Backlit TFT display with a maximum resolution of 1366x768. The impressive part is its non reflective display, one can use comfortable in any typical office environment or our door where lighting is brighter. The view from different angles is better from any other laptops. The device is available in glossy black colour in Indian market.

Performance Of Toshiba Satellite L740 Laptop

The processor Intel Dual Core B960 is an old one and is not the new generation core i3 or i5 with a speed of 1895MHz and cache of 2MB. Its RAM capacity is 3GB and is DDR type with a speed 1333MHz and is expandable up to 8GB with a double memory slot. With an internal storage of 640GB of HDD, one can never go out of storage soon. The driver performance is quite good as well it copies 4GB single file in 103 seconds and a 4GB folder in 118 seconds and converts a 100MB file in 157 seconds from VOB to DivX. OS works on windows 7 with Home Basic 32-bit.

Other Features of Toshiba Satellite L740 Laptop

The device comes with built-in camera features and is of 0.3MP which will cone in handy during video chats and weight is 2.3Kg. Over all it is a well built and the design had its own style, and if it is slightly slimmer it may look better. The in-built speaker has a high definition of audio with a good audio clarity. The GPU type is its Intel HD graphic processor.

The battery is 6 cells Li-Ion type with a capacity of 4400.0 mAh, but a bit disappointing thing is its battery life, it serves on for 1hour 40 minutes. And one can charge the device while in sleeping mode too, like mobilephones

After looking at its performance and specifications it is more appropriate to say it is just a desktop replacement and is more ideal for home purpose. Being tagged fewer than 30K price tag, which is about Rs.28,490 INR can be considered as a budget laptop. It has no gaming option as it comes with internal graphic card. But the delight is its display which is non reflective. Alternatively there are several other options with high end processor for same GB of RAM and hard drive with 15 inch screen in market at an affordable price, like Lenovo G560 with 3i core processor with 3GB RAM and 320GB hard drive with 15.6 inch display.
