After renaming Hotmail id to Outlook.com id, emails are deleted and not delivered
Did you recently rename your Hotmail id to Ourlook.com address and found all of your emails disappeared from your inbox? See the solutions to recover your old emails.
Last week Microsoft silently launched Outlook.com email service and prompted many people to upgrade (rename) their Hotmail address to an Outlook.com email address. Many people chose to upgrade trusting Microsoft would have done enough testing before they prompted millions of people to upgrade. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disaster for many people.
As a result of upgrading to Outlook.com, many people report that they lost all their old emails in their Hotmail inbox. Many forums are flooded with complaints about missing emails, deleted contact information and emails not delivered to the inbox which were addressed to the old hotmail address. If you haven't upgraded your Hotmail address to Outlook address, I strongly recommend you do not do it at this time. There are many problems in upgrading Hotmail address to Outlook.com id. Instead of upgrading your Hotmail id, you can add an Outlook.com alias to your Hotmail address which seem to be a safe option that achieve the same goals.Emails sent to Hotmail id are deleted or not delivered
Many people are reporting their emails in the inbox are deleted or not delivered. However, it appears that many people have misunderstood how it works. When the Hotmail address is upgraded to an Outlook address, you will be prompted to create a new folder to move all your old emails to and also the future emails coming to that mail id will be moved to the same folder. Since all the emails are moved to the new folder, people see an empty inbox and think all their emails are deleted. Also, when the new email comes to the old mail id, they will be moved to the folder automatically and they will think the email is not delivered since they don't see it in the inbox.
If you see no Hotmail emails in your inbox, look for them in your folders. Unless you changed the default folder name, your Hotmail mails may be safe in a folder called YourMailId@Hotmail.com. Hope this solution will work for most people who report their emails are missing from the inbox.
I am not saying everyone who report that their emails are deleted have the same case. Since many people are reporting this, I think there may be real bug in the Hotmail - Outlook upgrade process. Microsoft has not made any official announcement regarding this problem and so obviously there is no official solution from Microsoft yet.
