Microsoft announced Outlook.com email service just a couple of days back. Outlook comes with a modern, cool and intuitive user interface. Since it is a new interface, many users are confused on how to use various features.
The primary difference between an email address and an email alias is, you cannot use the alias to login to your Microsoft account. You have to use your primary email address for this purpose. An email address is an additional email address for your primary email address. Others can send emails to your primary email address or any of your email aliases. Sometimes you may not trust the other party and may not want to give your primary email id to them. In such cases, you can give your email alias. Typically, you could create a separate email alias and give separate one to each unreliable party. However, Outlook.com restrict you from creating more than 5 email aliases in normal cases. To create an email alias, follow the steps below:
1. Login to Outlook.com using your Microsoft account.
2. Click on the "Gear" icon on top right corner.
3. Click on "More mail settings" link in the menu.
4. In the next screen, click on "Create a Outlook alias". ("Don't worry, even though it says Outlook alias, you can create Hotmail and Live alias as well)
5. Type the alias name you want, choose the domain and click "Create an alias".
Now, the new alias is added to your account. Any emails send to your primary mail id or any of the email addresses will be delivered to your same mail account.
After you save, you will be prompted to select a folder to organize any emails arriving to the newly created alias. You may choose a folder and you can skip it to have all your emails in the inbox itself.Where to see the list of aliases in your Microsoft account?
Here is a place where you can see the list of email aliases you have created in your Microsoft email account:
1. Click "New" to compose a new email address.
2. Look for your name on the top left corner, which is the "From" address for the email you are sending.
3. Click on the arrow next to your name. Click on it to see a dropdown menu.
This dropdown menu shows all of your associated email addresses and aliases.
