Caution

The given procedures and methods are deemed risky and should not be attempted by an amateur. We won't be held responsible for any damage caused to the device.

  • Firstly, know that this procedure will erase all your apps, data and settings. So don't forget to create a backup copy of your Apps and important data like bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. A backup of your APN settings will be really a helpful tool for you to restore it later, if by any chance your data connection fails to work after the installation of the ROM, you can check The Android backup guide in case you need help.

  • Next step is to unlock the Nexus 7 Bootloader and to do so use the Nexus Root Toolkit, but this will cause you to lose all the data on your tablet which includes the files on the SD card as well, so it is wise to make a backup.

  • Now install the ClockworkMod(CWM) recovery, preferably the touch version of the recovery as it is more convenient to use. TWRP recovery is another option you can use, whose interface is much better in comparison with CWM recovery.

  • Next step is to download the latest version of the ROM which can be done by going to the official development page.

  • Create a copy of the zip file which was downloaded in step 4 in the SD card on the tablet. Take care not to extract the files.

  • Now you need to turn off the tablet in order to boot the tablet into recovery by pressing and holding the Volume up +, Volume down + and the Power button together simultaneously until the tablet boots into CWM recovery.

  • You will then need to create a Nandroid Backup of your present ROM so that in case something goes wrong with this ROM, you can always restore your existing ROM from recovery. In order to create a backup, select Backup and Restore. Go to the following screen and select Backup again. After backup is completed, return to the main recovery menu.
In case if you are using TWRP recovery, then in order to confirm backup, you will have to select Backup and then you will see a blue button, slide it to the right and you will start backing up.
Click wipe data/factory reset and then click Yes which will appear on the next screen but if you are using TWRP recovery, select Wipe>> Factory reset and go back to main recovery menu and wait until data wipe is completed.

  • Next, you will have to select install zip from sdcard and then scroll down and go to the ROM file which is on the SD card and then select choose zip from sdcard. Now to confirm your installation, you should select "Yes Install _____.zip" which will pop up on the next screen. And in case of TWRP recovery, first select Install and then click the ROM file. After doing so it will start the installation of the ROM.

  • Wait until the installation process is completed. Now go back to the main recovery menu and reboot your system by clicking "Reboot system now", in order to reboot the tablet for Liquid Jelly Bean ROM to boot up in the tablet or press the Reboot system button in case of TWRP recovery. Wait for five minutes as the first boot will take some time.

  • NOTE: In case you want to go back to using your old ROM, you need to boot your tablet into recovery as mentioned in step 6 and select backup and restore then you can restore your old ROM by selecting it from the list and for TWRP recovery, select Restore and you have to select the backup from the list.

Now you have successfully installed Liquid Jelly Bean ROM on your Google Nexus 7. For more updates and details visit the official development page.
