How to use Windows 8 with Mouse and Keyboard and without a Touch screen
Microsoft introduced Windows 8, which is optimized for touch based gestures. However, most of the Windows users still have traditional computers with keyboard and mouse and have no touch screen. In this article, I will explain how to use Windows 8 with mouse and keyboard and without a touch screen.
Using Windows 8 seem to be a big challenge for many people who do not have a touch screen computer. Even for the people who have a touch screen computer, unless they learn the supported Touch Based gestures, it would be confusing to use Windows 8 until they get familiar with various gestures in Windows 8.
I am using a 1 year old Lenovo Ideapad laptop with traditional keyboard and mouse. I installed all preview releases of Windows 8 and had a touch time figuring out how to use various tasks in Windows 8 with the keyboard and mouse.

Windows 8 was designed with Touch based operations in mind. Even though Microsoft states Windows 8 can run on both traditional computers as well as touch screen devices, you will need to get familiar with the keyboard and mouse equivalent of the Touch gestures for Windows 8.
How to close Windows 8 Metro Apps using keyboard and mouse?
The Touch gesture to close a Windows 8 Metro App is to drag the App from all the way from the top edge to the bottom edge. If you do not have a touch screen, you can achieve the same with your mouse. To close a Metro app using mouse, follow the steps below:
- Point your mouse at the top edge of the screen when the app is open.
- When the cursor changes, click and drag all the way to the bottom
- Release the mouse at the bottom
- Now your Metro App will be closed and you will return to the Metro Start screen.
