If some company knows how to keep the customer interest in its products by showering them with new features, then Apple is definitely one of them. At WWDC 2012, Scott Forstall took the stage to unveil iOS 6 to the developers. When compared with iOS 5, iOS 6 has 200, more updates and upgrades. iOS 5 has already been a great success with more than 80% adoption rate, the fact which was confirmed by Scott when he boasted about the usage figures of iMessage, Twitter stats, Game Center and push notifications.

So, here are the new features of iOS 6:

  • Tweet with Siri in iOS 6

  • Integrate Rotten Tomatoes for movie reviews and timing with Siri in iOS 6

  • Optimization for sports coverage. Get game stats, summaries and player stats with Siri in iOS 6

Facebook integration in iOS 6

This is great news for Facebook. With iOS 5, Twitter had received a great boost in its usage; and now Facebook, with its already large number of users is will be further benefited.
You can log into your Facebook account with the Facebook login and password using the Facebook app, the iOS 6 web browser or Siri. Developers can also use Facebook sign in for their apps.
Your contacts will be synced with your Facebook contacts, but the bigger news is that now your friends birthdays and events will also be synced to the iOS 6 calender.

New Phone app improvements in iOS 6

These are some modest but useful changes in the New Phone app. Now, if you have to make an important call at a particular time or if you have to just make a call but not right now, then you can set a reminder for yourself to call or text back later. This reminder can also function based on your location
There is also a "do-not disturb" mode. With this you will receive a text but the screen won't glow up neither will it make any sound. There are new features for grouping contacts too and settings on how calls from these groups will be handled.

FaceTime on cellular connection

Forget Skype, now FaceTime will function over cellular connections and not only on WiFi. Moreover, now you can choose whether to attend a call on your iPad or Mac.

New features for Safari in iOS 6

Safari has now got offline readings lists. This is quite similar to Instapaper app. Also, these offline Reading Lists will be synced to Safari in OS X

Another cool feature that is for developers is the ability to add "App Banners" to websites. This allows the developers to show off their native app on the screen. If the users want to install the app they just need to touch the banner. If the app is installed, the users will go directly to the app and launch it there only.

Improvements in photo / image management in iOS 6

Now you can share your photos with your friends over the iCloud and also do comments.

New features for Mail in iOS 6

Now you can set your email preferences to receive mail from only those people you want to receive mail from. This is a very useful feature for bloggers like me who receive a large number of mails daily.
Apple has also features to open password-locked files in the mail itself and pull-to-refresh for messages.

New Passbook app in iOS 6

This is similar to the Google application for loyalty card tracker from Google Wallet. It collects your loyalty cards, ticket information and such related information in a neat way at one place. Moreover, this application is location based so that it will show you movie tickets at a movie theatre and hotel ticket near a restaurant. Passbook in iOS 6 has a great looking interface too.

Improvements in features of Maps in iOS 6

Apple has done big innovations in the Maps in iOS 6, making good use of the acquisitions it had done of mapping services. Yelp is integrated with iOS 6 Maps.

Maps in iOS 6 have their own traffic update service, providing anonymous, crowd sources and real time updates on traffic details.

Maps in iOS 6 are capable of providing a professional grade turn by turn based GPS service that is vector based and is voiced by Siri.
From the demo given by Scott, the map looked rich in details and looks to have super fast 3D photographic rendering.
Maps of iOS 6 will also highlight developer mapping apps inside its own interface and point out the top transit apps in iTunes.

When will you get iOS 6

Developer beta version of iOS 6 is already available and the for other normal customers you can upgrade to iOS this fall.
