How to turn ON or turn OFF Windows Defender in Windows 8


Follow the steps below to turn on or turn off Windows Defender in Windows 8. These steps will work with all current releases of
Windows 8, including Developer Preview, Consumer Preview and Release Preview.

1. Point your mouse on the bottom right corner and click on the icon to get the search box

2. In the search box, type "defender".

3. It will filter the applications by name and will show the "Windows Defender" icon on the leftside in the desktop.

4. Click on the "Windows Defender" icon to start Windows Defender in Windows 8.

You will see the Windows Defender application window as shown below:

In the home screen of Windows Defender, you can see the status displayed as shown below:

Real-time protection: On

If the status is "On", it indicates Windows Defender is protecting your Windows 8.

How to turn off real-time protection in Windows Defender


To turn off real time protection on Windows Defender:

- click on the tab "Settings".

- Uncheck the checkbox that says "Turn on real-time protection"

Warning: When real-time protection is not enabled, your Windows 8 is not protected from malware and virus. Remember to install and configure another security solution or antivirus to protect your Windows 8 computer.

How to turn on real-time protection in Windows Defender


To turn on real time protection on Windows Defender in Windows 8:

- click on the tab "Settings".

- Check the checkbox that says "Turn on real-time protection"
