Are you facing login problems with your Google Talk and getting the error Username and password do not match? Learn how to fix this login problem and unlock your Google Talk messenger.
Google Talk is my primary mode of communication with friends and business clients. I have been using the Google Talk chat client for quite sometime. Two weeks ago, I was surprised to see a message on my Google Talk window that "Account locked". The first step I did was to go to the Google Account Unlocking page and followed the instructions to unlock the account. However, that did not help at all. The only difference it made was, the error message changed to "Username and password do not match. You provided <my user name>".How to solve the sign in error "Username and Password do not match" in Google Talk
I struggled for a week to get access back to my Google Talk account. I tried various solutions recommended by Google and others. I have listed various solutions below, with the one that worked for me as the first one in the list.
1. If you have 2-step verification turned on, generate a new password and try using it to Sign In to Google Talk.
2. Simply exit your Google Talk client (not just close the app, but exit the app from the system tray and restart) and restart. Try Sign In again.
3. Sign Out from all of your Google Accounts in your browsers and Sign In again.
4. Follow the instructions given
here by Google
The above options are mentioned in detail below. Here is how I resolved my Google Talk login problem, which would work for you as well if you have 2-step verification turned on:
1. Go to the page https://accounts.google.com/b/0/IssuedAuthSubTokens
2. Generate new application-specific password
3. Sign in to Google Talk using your user name and the newly generated password.
(I had already done this step in the past and I still had Google Talk listed in the "Your application-specific passwords" list. I had to ignore that and generate a new password which did the trick.)
The above steps will resolve your Google Talk login problem, if your case is:
1. You have 2-step verification turned on for your Google account.
2. You see the message "Account Locked" in your Google Talk window
3. When you try to Sign In using correct Username and password, you get the error "Username and password do not match. You provided ..."
4. If nothing else worked, contact Google Talk team and report your issue.
Unlocking Google Account
If you see the message "Account Locked" in your Google Talk chat client, try the following steps, as mentioned by Google in this page:
See if that works for you. It did not work for me and I started getting the 'Username and password do not match' error. I was entering the correct user name and password and it was working fine when I use it with other Google services like GMail. Finally what worked for me was re generate a new password in my 2-step verification page and use that password instead of my original password.Google was not much helpful to resolve the Google Talk login problem
Google usually offer very good user experience in all of its apps and services. However, I was disappointed to see how inconvenient the process of unlocking my account. Here are some concerns that Google should consider:
1. When the Google Talk account was locked, it was giving misleading error that "Username and password do not match". Instead, it should have told me to "Go and re generate a new password at the 2-step verification page".
2. Re generate a new password at the 2-step verification passwords page should be included as a solution in this page - http://support.google.com/talk/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=25752
2. The solution mentioned in the official page (http://support.google.com/talk/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=25752) did not work. And the options were limited after that.
3. The link given to "Get assistance from other users in the Google Talk Help Forum" (http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/talk) is an expired Google Group. It shows the message "This forum is no longer open to new posts or replies, but the past discussions are still available to view.". Rather, the "get assistance" link should have pointed me directly to the Google Talk Help Center (http://support.google.com/talk/).
It really worked for me ..
I tried out many many things , but it was not working and here when i tried the solution provided above it really worked thanks a lot bro! :)
