Samsung is releasing Ultra High Speed (UHS–1) Micro SD card
Samsung is well known for its innovative and attractive Smart phones with high features available at a reasonable price. It had also released Tablet PCs. Micro SD cards are the most simple portable storage devices for both smart phones and tablet PCs. Now Samsung is debuting a new generation of micro SD. It is being categorized as UHS-1. It is more applicable for powerful devices like LTE devices (Long Term Evolution Devices) and demanding mobile applications.
UHS-1 (Ultra High Speed-1)
UHS-1 (Ultra High Speed-1) grade has already been implemented on high capacity SD cards. It was reserved only for SDXC and SDHC cards. But Samsung just announced new micro SD cards that support the faster interface as well. Its maximum speed was 50MB/s. It is built from 20 nanometer-classes; 64 gigabit toggle DDR 2.0 NAND.This can support high speed bit rate mobile applications. But today UHS–2 (Ultra High Speed–2) is also almost ready for the launch. This is expected to provide data speed up to 312MB / s. Now Samsung started shipping of UHS–1 micro SD cards of capacities up to 16 GB. The speed of read operation is 21MB/s and write speed is 80MB/s, when the UHS–1 micro SD card is interfaced to microcontroller. In other way of describing the speed, it is four times faster than typical class 10 micro SD cards. The UHS-1 interface has been seen on full-size SD cards, as used in digital SLR cameras and video recorders and Samsung has transferred it to the micro SD card format.
The mobile phones or tablet PCs are usually expected to have their own internal memory with very high capacity. But to transfer or to take data from one mobile to another mobile micro SD cards are the simplest way of transfer, under many constraints. Samsung is developing high performance mobile storage to match the high speed data transfer of 4G LTE. Originally UHS-1 is intended for high performance tasks as HD video recording to do away with bulky storage options and digital tapes. Long Term Evolution is the best way to drive these messages home. The full production of the new Micro SD card has been started in Samsung’s NAND fabrication South Korea.
Ultra high-speed Micro SD cards (UHS–1 interface) applications and constraints for Tablets/Smart phones
The tablets like Barnes and Noble's Nook are the tablets in which these Ultra High Speed Micro SD cards are used currently. Samsung’s own tablet, that is Galaxy Tablet can use the Micro SD card, but currently it needs Micro SD reader or adapter plugged in. So at present the application of the UHS-1 micro SD card of Samsung is constrained as tablet data transfer device or temporary external device used for playing the files or videos stored in it temporarily for the Samsung tablets. Moreover Samsung is in its work to overcome these constraints by releasing the future revisions of UHS interface micro SD card. In particular, Samsung concentrating on UHS–1 Micro SD card compatible devices.
Apart from Barnes and Noble’s Nook tablets, the UHS–1 micro SD card can be applicable for Android tablets.
