Network

Both Apple iPhone 4S and Nokia Lumia 800 are quadband, Wi-Fi capable and 3G ready devices.

Size

Coincidently and surprisingly both the phones weigh almost the same- 140g (115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm)for the Apple iPhone 4S and 142g (116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm) for the Nokia Lumia 800.

Screen

The Apple iPhone has a LED-backlit IPS TFT, capacitive touch screen which supports 16 million colours. Nokia Lumia 800 on the other hand has a strikingly cool looking AMOLED capacitive touchscreen which also supports 16M colors. The screen resolution of the Apple iPhone 4S is however better with 640 x 960 pixels in a 3.5 inches thereby attaining a 330 ppi pixel density. The Nokia Lumia 800 on the other hand has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels in its large 3.7 inches screen and hence having a 252 ppi pixel density.

Both the phones are multi-touch capable and are provided with one of the best screen protections. The Apple iPhone 4S has a Scratch-resistant oleophobic screen glass coating while the Nokia Lumia 800 on the other hand has the tough Corning Gorilla Glass screen.

Internal and external memory

The RAM memory of both the phones is also coincidentally same- 512 MB. Both the phones have no option to use external memory cards. The Apple iPhone 4S however is available in more variants- 16GB , 32GB, 64GB internal memory whereas the Nokia Lumia is available only in 16 GB internal memory model- A definite letdown if you listen to 599999999 songs every day.

Camera

The Apple IPhone 4S and the Nokia Lumia 800 both have a 8MP camera with auto focus. (Did the two companies consult each other while designing the models?) However the Nokia Lumia 800 has double LED flash and the camera is situated in the centre of the mobile as against the Apple iPhone which has only a single LED flash and the camera is located in the side edge- A great way to take pictures while concealing the phone. The video shooting of the Apple iPhone 4S is better with 1080p@30fps resolution as compared to Nokia Lumia 800's 720p@30fps.
Also the iPhone 4S is equipped with secondary camera to take video calls. However there is no such facility in the Nokia Lumia 800. Wonder how will one take video calls? (You can use a mirror however!)

Operating system and hardware

The iPhone 4S comes with the latest 'Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 iOS5' from Apple. The Nokia Lumia 800 on the other hand has only a 'single core but a powerful 1.4 GHz Scorpion Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango' Operating system.

Battery

The Apple iPhone 4S has a Li-Po 1432 mAh battery with a standby time of 200+hrs. The Nokia Lumia 800 also has an almost similar Li-Ion 1450 mAh battery with a standby time of 262 hrs.
