Indian telecome service provider BSNL and India based electronics company Pantel launched the low cost Penta brand T-Pad tablets in India through a partnership. This partnership is aimed to provide low cost, affordable, high quality tablet computer devices for the Indian consumer market, especially the education sector in India.
One of the Penta T-Pad tablets is a low cost tablet (T-Pad IS701R), meant to offer a tight competition to the Aakash tablets, which was sold for Rs 2,500 in India. Considering the fact that the relation between Government of India and DataWind is going through troubles, BSNL and Pantel has chosen the right time to reap the benefits of the increased interest in low cost tablets among the students and consumers in India.
Among the 3 T-Pad tables available, only one is a low cost model (T-Pad IS701R) and meant to be a competitor to the Aakash and UbiSlate 7+ tablets. ALL THESE BSNL DEVICES PROVIDE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY ONLY THROUGH Wi-Fi WHICH HAS VERY LIMITED OUTREACH. THIS MEANS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO INTERNET ONLY WHEN CONNECTED TO BROADBAND. SO THIS DEVICE IS USEFUL ONLY FOR ABOUT 18 MILLION USERS WHO HAVE BROADBAND CONNECTIONS. THESE PEOPLE MIGHT AS WELL BUY AN IPAD. WHY DO THEY NEED THIS CHEAP CHINESE PRODUCT? ON THE OTHER HAND, UBISLATE7+ ( UPGRADED AAKASH) PROVIDES INTERNET CONNECTIVITY BOTH THROUGH WiFi AND GPRS.....THIS IMPLIES ANYWHERE ANYTIME ACCESS TO INTERNET. A DEVICE SUCH AS A TABLET IS USEFUL ONLY IF IT CAN BE USED AT ALL PLACES AT ALL TIMES. THE FACT THAT NONE OF THE BSNL TABLETS PROVIDES CONNECTIVITY THROUGH GPRS DEFIES IT'S UTILITY. THE DEVICE IS NO MATCH FOR UBISLATE7+.
