Lenovo Ideapad U400 Review

If you are interested in buying a Lenovo U400 series laptop, I strongly recommend you read some hands-on reviews. Here is my reviews on the Lenovo Ideapad U400 based on the information I can find from various sources including official specification, Amazon shop and various other independent reviewers. I have presented a summary of the reviews from various authentic sources.

Lenovo Ideapad U400 reviews

I have to admit that I haven't got a chance to use the Lenovo U400 series laptop and this is not a hands-on review of Lenovo Ideapad U400 laptop. This review of U400 is based on the information I collected from Lenovo official website, various reviews written in other websites and my own experience with Lenovo Laptops.

Let us look at the good part first. What I like most with the Lenovo Ideapad U400 is the stylish design, sleek appearance, thin size, low weight and breathable keyboard. Use of sandblasted aluminum over lid, palm rest and keyboard deck gives the stylish touch to the keyboard. One of the disadvantages of my Ideapad Y560p is, it really hot and make it almost impossible to use on the lap for more than few minutes. Based on what I read and found it from the tech specs, I believe, the breathable keyboard of Lenovo Ideapad U400 will be much more cooler and will be suitable to use it on the lap, doing justice to the name "Lap top".

The aluminium unibody makes the U series laptops very stunning and stylish design.

What is so good about Lenovo Ideapad U400

There are several factors I love in the Lenovo Ideapad U400 series of laptops. One of the most important factors I like with the Ideapad U400 is the resemblance to the Ultrabooks. It weights much lower compared to many other laptops, including the previous versions of Lenovo Ideapads. My Lenovo Ideapad Y560p weights about 6 pounds and feels pretty heavy to carry. So I usually carry my iPad when I travel or even when I just sit outside in the garden browsing casually. I think if my laptop was little bit smaller, I could have used it instead of the iPad since the tablets are not very convenient when it comes to typing.

Now let us look at the drawbacks of the Lenovo Ideapad U400.

Drawbacks of Lenovo Ideapad U400

Many reviewers have pointed out couple of drawbacks of the Ideapad U400 series laptops. I am hoping to get my hands-on review of this stylishly designed laptop. For now, let me give a summary of what other think about the U series.

The PCMag reviews points out that the Ideapad U400 laptop did not perform well in gaming. I would think that is true. It is not really a gaming superhero. If you are a gaming guy, you probably want to consider some other high power laptops with better graphics GPU.

Some other reviewers have reported Lenovo decided to compromise comfort for style in this "U" series. I can't really state how comfortable the laptop is without using it, but from the pictures I can say it is very stylish!

Under ideal test conditions, the Lenovo Ideapad U400 battery would last for 7 hours, but I think the ideal conditions are far from the reality. Many reviewrs reported they could achieve about 5 hours battery life in normal working environment.

Another important thing missing in the Ideapad U series laptops is the Blue-ray player. Not sure why Lenovo did not want to include a blueray player since many customers may opt for something else just for this reason. May be Lenovo read my mind. I paid about $200 extra last year for a SONY laptop just to add the Blye-ray drive, but until today I do not have a single Blay ray disc to test if the blue-ray drive on my laptop works! I will probably never get a blue-ray disc before end of life of that laptop and so the $200 I spent extra was just a waste of money.

There are mixed reviews on the keyboard. Some reviewers think the keyboard on the "U" series laptop is soft and comfortable to use while some others think they are too delicate and feels like it may come out easily.

Price of Lenovo Ideapad U400

You can buy the Ideapad U400 at as low as US$ 778 from Amazon.com, even though it is priced at US$ 1449 at the Lenovo official site.

Here are the prices of Ideapad U400 series laptops at Amazon.com:
