An Acer Aspire s3 is first generation ultrabook fashioned with a slim, sleek and attractive design. Unlike toshiba's z835 it has a large storage capacity which consists of 320GB of HDD and 20GB of solid state drive. Acer Aspire s3 is powered by intel's core i5 1.6 GHZ processor. Aspire s3 also comes with core i7 and i3 and a 4GB DDR3 memory power. Aspire s3 comes with a chicklet style keyboard combined with a multi-touch trackpad. The device has a plastic exterior and one can find plastic even on the keyboard which makes it quite uncomfortable for typing.

The left and the right clicks are not seperated, instead they are integrated with the trackpad itself and is elegant in its design but offers a very little size. The battery backup is quite strong and promises to run as long as 7 hours. These combinations makes it an exiting prospect. The acer aspire s3 comes with a 13.3 inch LED (1366x768) backlit LCD TFT display. Though it has a average display, viewing HD videos and movies is a good experience. Still due to poor resolution, high quality viewing angles are largly restricted. Compared to other ultrabooks this one weighs a touch higher with 2.93 pounds but is not a major concern. The price tag for an Aspire s3 ranges between $798-$1159, but is cheaper if you buy it online. As far as performance is concerned, its undoubtly one of the top class performer. 2.Toshiba z835

Toshiba z835 is another breed of first generation ultrabooks. All the ultrabooks which are hitting the markets have feirce competition with respect to their size, light weight and thin design and toshiba z835 promises to have all these features in its kitty. It weighs around 2.4 pounds and is considerably light when compared with Acer Aspire s3. Its ultra-slim feature makes it attractive but its the keyboard which should deserve a lot of applause. The plastic made backlit keyboard features chicklet styler keys. They are well seperated and large without much of a movement. Typing with these keys is easier and fast as against Acer Aspire s3, but due to unresponsive keys, error rate might be higher. The multi-trackpad though offers a smaller size, is comfortable to glide over the desktop for the user.

The trackpad is responsive, offering two discrete buttons below it. Toshiba Portege is the lightest 13.3" ultrabook consisting of a 1.4 Ghz core i3-2637M processor which is a Sandy Bridge hardware , 4Gb of RAM and a 128GB mSATA SSD that writes files like a hard drive. Its read and write speeds are not particularly fast providing a max 180MB/s reads and 70MB/sec on writes. Due to High Speed start technology the device boots in just 21 seconds which holds good against the Aspire s3. The 8 cell battery lasted for solid 6 hours 30 min on laptop battery test. The device at $899 is arguably a good option under $1000. They are the same chicklet style keys but somewhat flat caps and well spaced up and sturdy. The big minus is the absence of a backlit keyboard which would have been great. The trackpad comes with a large gass synaptics clickpad with integrated buttons with special touchpad gestures. Its an excellent touchpad amongst all the other ultrabooks in recent times. 4.Asus Zenbooks:Costliest Ultrabook

The Asus Zenbooks, which are impossibly thin and light weight is the best rival for MacBook Air. It is designed increadibly and many would say that its design is simply a zerox copy of MacBook Air, but that's not a negative point. Asus Zenbooks are entirely built out of aluminium with a gorgeous looking metal finish and nearly resembles MacBook. The Zenbook UX31 is powered by a 1.8Ghz core i7-2677M processor which can be boosted to 2.9Ghz with intel's 2.0 Turbo Boost technology, 4GB RAM and 256GB of SSD. In stark comparison with other ultrabooks such as Acer Aspire s3, Toshiba's z835, Lenovo Ideapad U300s this 13.3 inch display, features a higher resolution of 1600x900 px. As was the case with other ultrabooks, it also has a chicklet layout and the brushed aluminium keys are really pleasing to the eye, but does not have a backlit keyboard. Typing here is a bit tedius work as the keystrokes do not get registered easily.

The touchpad at times, registers a left click as a right click and it often feels that we don't have total control over the cursor. Scrolling down the web pages is touch frustrating act and also marking something to cut+paste is a bother. The battery does last for 6-odd hours while browsing the net, playing videos and songs. Asus Zenbooks performance is unmatched and even beats the Air's performance. The device boots up in just 16 seconds, faster than any other ultrabook.

Rating:The weakest points are its keyboard and touch pad, so those having lot of typing work, better stay away from this. But excellent audio and build quality combined with a design very similar to Mac Air, does compensates for its demerits. Its price is major issue.
