Meanwhile Datawind is getting ready to launch the upgraded version of Aakash. This tablet will be known as Ubislate 7 Plus in the commercial market. They had opened the online booking of Ubislate 7 plus in the mid of last December and so far they have managed to get more than 20 lakhs of online booking for this tablet. This upgraded version will be available at a price of Rs 2999. Indian Government and IIT Rajasthan are now working on specifications of version 2.0 of the tablet that will have a capacitive touchscreen, such as the one in Apple's iPad, and a processor with speed ranging from 800 MHz to 1 GHz. It will be known as Aakash-2.
The tender inviting vendor for the next version is likely to be floated soon. Reports says that HRD Ministry is interested in new vendors. But Datawind informed that they are planning to launch low cost 4G tablets for Reliance Industries later this year and sell tablets at cheap price of around Rs 3500.
