How to enable or disable Hybrid Boot in Windows 8
Windows 8 Developer Preview was released during BUILD conference in September,2011 and lot of new features of Windows 8 were demonstrated at the conference. One such new feature introduced in Windows 8 is the 'Hybrid Boot'. The Hybrid Boot feature allows you to reduce start up time after shutting down Windows 8 computer. That is the reason why Windows 8 boots faster compared to Windows 7. This is a booting process which is in between Hibernation and normal cold boot. Normally in hibernation mode, all the files are saved in the same state, but in Hybrid boot mode, only the operating system files are saved in same state so that booting process does not take much time.
The Hybrid Boot is enabled by default in Windows 8 Developer Preview, but if you want to disable it or enable it ( if not enabled by default), it is possible to do it from Control Panel. Here is a step by step guide on how to enable or disable Hybrid Boot in Windows 8.
If the Hybrid Boot option is disabled in Windows 8, it will revert back to classic shutdown behavior.
After searching for two days on why my NTFS drive wouldn't be recognized, I read this and fixed my problem. After making the changes you clearly outlined, my Ubuntu rig could finally ready an internal back up hard drive from my Win10 machine. Thank you very much for posting this.
