The Desktop screen will appear black in color at periodic interval of time when the notification message occurs on screen that shows that you are suffering from software counterfeiting ,when activation key is not original then new updates for any software whether that software is Microsoft software or any other software is not allowed in Windows 8.
The case may be there according to which, system components which manages the status of permanent data storage will not allow transfer of data from one portable device to another then installation of third party software files will also behaves like corrupt or missing when your product key is not original, the only thing that prevent you from incomplete Windows activation is to install original Windows 8 package with original product key.
