The Disk clean up utility in Windows 7 is a very useful tool for removing un wanted files on your hard drive so that lot of free disk space is available. Removing unwanted files and freeing up disk space will help you to run your compute system faster.

Disk clean up tool in Windows 7 is a very helpful file cleaning up tool which removes all un wanted files which are stored in your Windows 7 computer. Most of these files may be the temporary files which might have been used once and not useful any more. Let us see how to use this clean up tool availble in Windows 7.

  • Click on the Start menu and type "Disk clean up" in the search box. Now you will see the 'Disk Cleanup' under the Programs as shown in the screen shot below. Just click on it.

  • Now you will see a dialog box asking for selecting a disk drive to clean up. Select the drive that you want to clean up and then click on OK button. See the screen shot below

  • Now you will see a dialog box while scanning your hard drive to check how much disk space can be cleaned up. See the screen shot below.

  • After scanning the drive, you will have the option to select the types of files that you want to delete which range from temporary files to archieved error reports. You can select the corresponding types files that you want to be removed and then click on OK. See a screenshot below.

  • Once you select the types of files, click on 'delete files' in the confirmation window.

  • Now the files will be deleted from the drive and you will get extra free space in the drive
