Microsoft IIS express Web Server
Web server is to deploy the application and to test the Web application. Microsoft IIS Express is a web server that will work with Visual Studio 2010 and also with Visual Web Developer 2010. Previous versions come as a separate Web Server that needs to be installed in Windows OS and also there is built in ASP.NET Web Development Server in Visual Studio 2005 and 2008.
What is new in IIS Developer Express
IIS Express combines both the ASP.NET web server and all the features of IIS Server. It is a very small application an also less than 10 MB in size. Advantage of using IIS Express is it will not require an administrator account and most importantly it will not require any code changes to use in IIS Express.
IIS Express can be quickly launched from the directory to run an ASP.NET web site. IIS Express doesn't require any admin rights to install and configure is the best to consider in IIS Express.
Here are the features that are included in IIS Express
It is easier to use than the IIS Web Server and ASP.NET Development Server. It is a lightweight application.
Microsoft promised that you can download the file and can be installed separately and you can run the ASP.NET web application.
To test the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) ASP.NET application, a self signed SSL certificated in include in IIS Express will make the SSL testing easier
It is a complete Web Server with URL Rewrite, SSL, Media support and many more option available
IIS Express will support all the options that are supported in IIS 7
It will work with Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP as well is a good information for XP users
It can be installed even if you have a IIS Web server and ASP.NET Development Server installed in the system. It will not conflict each other.
Like other IIS Web server it will support the classic asp and other file types too
web site running in ASP.NET Development Server cannot be accessed from remote host whereas IIS Express supports remote requests
Redistribution is also possible in IIS Developer Express and as Microsoft says it has not connection limit
A patch will be release for Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Developer 2010 Express later this year and future version the IIS Developer Express will be integrated with Visual Studio and Visual Developer.
