How to recover deleted files in Windows 7

If you accidentally deleted a file in windows 7, it is possible to recover the file using either from a backup or restore it from previous version. This articles discusses about recovering lost files in windows 7.

If you have deleted a file accidentally, it is possible to recover it. The deletion could have happened due to a software bug, or OS crash etc.

The first step to recover a lost file is to look at the Recycle Bin and check if the file is available in recycle bin. If it is available there, you can restore it to its original location.

If you have emptied your recycle bin, then you can restore it using back up ( if you are using windows back up) or you can even try to restore it from a previous version. The previous versions are the files and folders that windows 7 automatically stores as a part of restore point.

If you want to restore a file or folder from backup, follow the given steps below:

  • First Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore.

  • Now click on Restore my files, and follow the steps


  • Click on Start ->Computer

  • Now goto the folder where your lost file was available, right-click on the folder and then click on 'restore previous versions'. Now you will see the available previous versions of the files that were deleted. You can recover the file that you wanted.

    Nice information, this can help many people to get there data back. Actually I had used recovery tool from restore point, when my PC get infected with Trojan. I found list of losing program & restoring program. This is nice feature of Windows 7.
