Introduction to Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi - The word that we are hearing a lot these days. The latest laptops are being equipped with Wi-Fi technology. The word sounds very familiar but are everyone aware what is Wi-Fi. Let me quickly introduce to you what Wi-Fi is
WiFi, is a wireless technology that is used for connecting to the network using radio frequency and obviously no cables.
Aware of cordless phones which work on wireless technology, if yes then WiFi also works similarly to cordless phones. The data is transmitted from one point to another through radio signals provided you are within the wireless network range area to be able to connect your computer.
There are three different types of wireless networks:
WLAN : Expanded as Wireless Local Area Network WLANs are wireless networks that use radio waves. The main network usually uses cables, with one or more wireless access points connecting the wireless users to the wired network. The range of a WLAN can range from a single room to an entire campus.
WPAN : Expanded as Wireless Personal Area Network WPANs are short-range networks that use Bluetooth technology. They are commonly used to interconnect compatible devices near a central location, such as a desk. The typical range of WPAN is about 30 feet.
WWAN : Expanded as Wireless Wide Area Network WWANs are created through the use of mobile phone signals. These WWANs are typically provided by specific mobile phone service providers. WWANs can provide a way to stay connected even when away from other forms of network access.
To access WiFi on your laptop, you need to have a built in WiFi card or need to buy an external WiFi car
