How to block a website in all web browsers (Windows XP)


In this resource I will tell you a simple method to block a website .This method works in all the browsers including Mozilla and Internet Explorer

In this resource I will tell you a simple method to block a website .This method works in all the browsers including Mozilla and Internet Explorer

1. Click Start

2. Then click All Programs

3 .Then click Accessories

4. Then click Command Prompt. This will open a DOS command window.

5. Then type: notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts

6. Then search for the line 127.0.0.1 localhost

7. To block the website yahoo.com for example, add this text under 127.0.0.1 localhost:

127.0.0.1 yahoo.com
127.0.0.1 www.yahoo.com

You can add as many sitesas you want, but do not forget to prefix it with "127.0.0.1".

6. Save the file

Yahoo will get blocked in all web browsers.

This is not a simple thing got everyone now this could be help full for all of you. You can also edit hosts file in notepad as well here is the link... C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts and do the same in front of your eyes.. enjoys

I have tried above methods on private network & it is working. But when I am trying same method while using proxy server for internet it is not working. Please help.

I tried this in windows 8 and am trying to block Google. It blocks google.com but not goo.gl
In Yandex browser, neither site is blocked.

This information is indeed a blessing for smaller organisations which do not use proxy servers(like large corporates do) to block certain websites being accessed by their employees. A good article.
