Installing Windows 7 beta 1

In this article, I am going to explain What you should know and do before installing the beta 1 pre-release copy of Windows 7 Operating System.

Prior notice


Install Windows 7 Beta 1 is a simple operation in itself and accessible to all.

  • A beta version is not intended to serve as permanent machinery. Every day, you will continue to use your XP or Vista you. Windows 7 Beta 1 is only there to satisfy your curiosity and begin to introduce you to its new concepts.


    • In other words, if you want to try Windows 7 today, you must install the system in "Dual Boot" on a dedicated partition. So you continue to use your machine normally, but any time you can reboot the PC to Windows 7 to have fun and introduce you to its use.

    Prepare a blank partition


    As we have seen is to install Windows 7 on its own partition and get a setup dual-boot to start at will on your current system (and all software) or on a brand new Windows 7.

    For this it is necessary to create a partition (disk unit) dedicated.

    - Start by making a backup of all your important data
    The easiest and quickest way is to use an external USB drive (there are high capacity at low prices) and make a complete disk image of your hard drive using a program such as DriveImage XML (Free ), Paragon Drive Backup Personal or Acronis True Image Home.

    - You can now create the new partition
    Once data is saved, you can repartition your hard disk to create a partition of at least 20 GB for Windows 7. To repartition your disks you can:
  • Either use the Disk Manager of Windows Vista, provided that your current partitions is well defragmented and you have enough blank space at the end of disk to reduce the current partition and create the new partition.

  • Either use a partitioning software disks as Easeus Partition Manager (free) or Paragon Partition Manager Personal 9 .


    • You should now have a machine with a new blank partition ready to host Windows 7.

    Securing Windows 7


    Downloading Windows 7 gives you an ISO image of the DVD system. Once this ISO file recovered, it still has to burn. If you already have a burning software like Nero, Roxio, Easy CD DVD Burner Free, InfraRecorder or Droppix Recorder, you can use the "Burn Image" of the software to create your DVD self-bootable Windows 7. You can also use a tool like ISO Recorder to burn the image directly from the Windows desktop.

    Think about burning the DVD at low speed (4x for example)! The installation is very sensitive to the quality of engraving. Any attempt to burn at high speed may lead to errors during installation.

    Insert the Windows DVD player 7 in and restart the PC, taking care that the machine boots from the DVD (even changing the BIOS settings for this). Above all, do not attempt an installation of Windows 7 from your current Windows, which would lead to a disastrous update. Reboot the PC on the burned DVD to install Windows.

  • The installation presents a first screen lets you indicate that you are using a English keyboard, choosing Time and Currency format and Keyboard or input method.

  • Then click Next and Install Now.

  • Check the box I accept the license terms and click Next.


    • The following screens require your full attention!
  • Select Custom (Advanced) (never opt for Upgrade)

  • Select Home partition you just created and click NEXT


    • First Windows 7 seconds


    Once installed and rebooted the system you are now in control of Windows 7.

    First Step:


  • Open the Start (or just press the key [Windows])

  • Place the mouse over the entry Getting Started

  • Click on Learn About Windows 7 and discover new core interface.


    • Second Step:


  • Open the Start (or just press the key [Windows])

  • Key Update in the search field and click on Windows Update

  • Perform updates

  • Verify that the update KB961367 is installed. It fixes a serious bug in WMP12 can destroy your MP3 files.


    • Third Step:


  • Open the Start (or just press the key [Windows])

  • Key Device in the search field and click on Device Manager

  • Check that all devices are recognized and installed.


    • Fourth Step:


  • Open the Start (or just press the key [Windows])

  • Place the mouse over the entry UAC Settings Change

  • Go down a notch slider notifications

  • On Windows 7 UAC security is always present, but the alerts disappear!


    • Set the Dual Boot


    Windows 7 is now installed as Dual Boot. By default, your PC will boot in Windows 7, not your old system. It is likely that you would rather start the day by default on your old system. It is imperative to change this setting in Windows 7 and not in your old system (you may render your PC unbootable):

  • Start your PC in Windows 7

  • Open the Start

  • Type MSCONFIG in the search box and validate by [Enter]

  • Go to the tab BOOT

  • Select your old system

  • Click Set as Default

  • Click Apply then click OK.


    • Your new system "Dual Boot" set to test Windows 7 will, is now ready ... Enjoy!
