All you need to know before starting advertising on Meta Threads
Threads, a new social media platform for public conversation and sharing text updates like X (former Twitter) is released by Meta. Here is everything you need to know about the new app on the block.
At a time when Elon Musk is setting a limit for tweets its users can see in a day, Meta the parent company of Facebook and Instagram has come up with a new product called the Threads app. Being seen as a clear rival to Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg's Threads started with a bang. It made its debut in more than 100 countries at the same time. The new product attracted five million sign-ups in its first four hours only with the owner company dubbing it the most rapidly downloaded app ever. However, it is still unavailable in European Union. The announcement was made by Zuckerberg himself. A host of celebrities and bigshots have already signup to the new conversation app including Kim Kardashian, Jenifer Lopez, and many more.
In its Play Store description, Meta has described it as a 'text-based conversation app'. With many users dubbing it more like Twitter, Threads is ready to take on the microblogging site. Meta has a history of copying the features of rival social media platforms as it did in 2020 by introducing Instagram Reels similar to TikTok. Now, this time Zuckerberg himself openly called Threads a rival to Twitter. This comes at a time when the largest microblogging site is undergoing several changes under its new leadership and may pave the way for the success of the Threads. However, it has been under process since January this year and delivered at a time when Musk and Zuckerberg have been trading barbs for long a time now. What is Meta's Threads App?
This free-to-download app is available at Play Store or Apple Store. Thread is a platform to write, see real-time updates, and post comment photos and videos. Posts and updates on Threads can be up to 500 characters long. There is a limit of five minutes for links, photos, and videos. The app is linked to your Instagram account; therefore, using Threads is much easier with Instagram integration. Your post can be shared on both platforms simultaneously. In the form of a link, your post can also be shared on other social media platforms. Through Instagram integration, Threads users can create a following without starting from scratch. Posts from your followers on both your accounts will figure in your feeds.
Threads allow users to control who can mention or respond to them on the platform. Threads users can unfollow, block, restrict, or report a profile. Users can easily find their friends and favorite accounts since their followers and followings are carried over automatically. Threads will automatically block any accounts blocked on users' Instagram profiles. It is also possible for users to filter out replies to the Threads by adding hidden words just as done on Instagram. A new feature called Fediverse is supported by Threads. In this way, it also becomes easier for Threads users to interact with the members of other alternative social media platforms including Mastodon and Bluesky. How to Use Threads?
Is Threads a Threat to Twitter?
At this point, the only question that remains relevant is if it will be able to compete with Twitter. As we know that Twitter is not entirely free now and you have to pay a good amount to use many of its features. At the same time, Twitter has also started charging for TweetDeck, and Twitter charges are also very high in India. Moreover, Twitter has been taking advantage of its monopoly in the micro-blogging sector. In contrast to Twitter, the Threads app is new and does not feature long videos, direct messages or live audio rooms like the social network. Also, there are no monetization opportunities offered by Threads yet. However, with the launch of Threads, Twitter users have another option that is available for free. We can say that Meta is a direct competition with Twitter and both platforms will compete for attention from the bigwigs of all sectors.Bottom Line
The app does not currently offer advertisements. You still retain your Instagram verification mark if you have paid for Meta verification. According to Bloomberg, Threads has been launched currently free of ads to attract more and more people and keep them glued to the new app. As a competitive differentiator from Twitter, the absence of ads is an attraction for new subscribers. However, just like on Facebook, ads will come when there is sufficient stickiness of users.
