TunesKit Audio Converter - Convert DRM protected songs, audiobooks to MP3 files

Are you looking to unlock DRM protected music or audiobooks on your MacBook? Do you want to transfer these locked music files to your mobile devices? If yes, then have a look at this article to know exactly how to easily unlock DRM protected music & audiobooks and use it freely on all your other devices.

Introduction

I have an Apple eco-system at home and do all of my work on various Apple devices. I make use of iTunes for streaming music, audiobooks, and listening to various podcasts on all my devices. Using iTunes, I can easily download music onto my iPhone or MacBook and listen to it later. I normally also download and keep my favourite audiobooks and podcasts and listen to them whenever I get free time.

However, I cannot play these music files on any of the other devices (Apple, Android or Windows), nor can I export them out of my iOS device. This is because these music and audio files are protected under the "Fair Play DRM Protection" and usually come locked for the intended account/devices only.

I needed to transfer some of my favourite music files, in addition to a few podcasts to an Android device for someone. In order to do that, I needed a powerful software on my Mac, that would easily let me convert these DRM-protected and locked files to freely playable MP3 format so that it can be transferred and played on any other device.

How does it work?

DRM protected audio is essentially a file encoded in a different format that checks the purchased licence on that device before it starts playing. Even though one can transfer these files to another computer, they won't play unless a purchase or rental licence is found on that computer or mobile device.

TunesKit Audio Converter basically re-encodes these audio files into a freely transferable and playable format like MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WAV etc. Once encoded into a new format, the DRM protection is lost and these files can easily be played on any other device.

This software re-encodes audios pretty fast and also removes all DRM protection from not only purchased music but also from audiobooks and podcasts from the iTunes store.

TunesKit Audio Converter

The software that I used to remove DRM protection for these audio files is called TunesKit Apple Audio Converter. This program is available for Windows as well as Mac OS. TunesKit Audio Converter is a complete DRM removal tool that allows you to remove DRM protection and convert iTunes music/audiobook and other purchases to the more commonly used MP3, AAC, M4A, FLAC formats with lossless audio for playing on any device.

How to use

  • Download the 'TunesKit Audio Converter' from the link mentioned above and install it on your MacBook.
  • This is how the installation page will look like. In order to install it correctly, simply hold the TunesKit Audio Converter icon and drag it to the Applications folder icon onto its right.

  • Once installed, Open the program from your 'Launchpad' and it should open up something like this:

  • Once the software opens up, click on the first option "Load iTunes Library" above to see a list of all the available music files on your library. From the left sidebar, you can filter the kind of files you are looking to convert; music or audiobooks.

  • Choose the desired output settings of the files from the bar at the bottom of the TunesKit window. You can select the output to either be MP3 or any of the other available preferred formats.

  • Choose the output folder where you'd like TunesKit to save the new generated audio files.
  • Hit the "Convert" button.

That's it! The resultant file in this folder is free from all DRM and Fairplay protection licences and can easily be played on any third-party players on any mobile device or computer.

Added bonus: If you are super meticulous about your music library and its ID tags, TunesKit software also allows you to edit them with ease. Just before you press the Convert button, click the edit button next to the respective file and head onto the 'Tags' tab above. Feel free to play around with adding or removing the file's tags. This includes the title, album, artist, composer, comments among other options. It also allows you to change the song's cover image from the Tags option. This feature comes in very handy when playing these music files in your car.

Please note, this is a paid software and is easily available for both Windows as well as the Mac Operation System from the link mentioned below:
