Android One Program - What is that?

We all use android phones but miss certain features that are offered by Google inc. In this article, we've mentioned about the Android One Project offered by Google inc. with their features.

Android (An Operating System owned by Google inc.) is a well known and better Operating system than iOS. Android is the most popular and user-friendly option due to its high customizability. But unfortunately, we aren't able to use the proper version of Android. All Android phones indeed run Google's Android but all phones (excluding Google Nexus and Pixel series) run Android using the AOSP (i. e. Android Open Source Project) source code. How it works is, different smartphone companies use the AOSP source code and then put their own user-interface and Stock-apps into it. They also remove as well as add certain features. The result at the end would not be the exact version of Android that Google wants you to interact with. It is the version of Android that companies want you to interact with. Fortunately, Google has got a solution for us in its Android One Program.

What is Android One Program

In 2014, Google's then SVP, now CEO Sundar Pichai launched the Android One platform at its annual developer conference. Android one is a service offered by Google inc. that offers all features of Google's Stock android without any tweaks by the developers. Phones that are powered by Android One Program get OS updated up to the next two years.

According to Google, The Android One program is their attempt to create affordable smartphones having high-end features (that are available on expensive smartphones) at reasonable rates. More importantly, Google will be responsible for delivering software updates (including Security patches) to all Android One phones. So, this means that, unlike normal low-end Android phones, which rarely receive any of the updates, you can expect your Android One devices to get the latest version of Android with the latest security patches for up to 2 years.

Android One vs Android

The biggest difference between Android and Android One is that the former as manufacturers of Android phones can make as many changes as they want to the operating system. Android OS can be tweaked heavily, adding more features and customized skin by the manufacturers. Whereas the Android One platform essentially was launched to make the user experience Pure Android. With that in mind, Google offers the same pure Android experience that is available in Google Nexus and Pixel series and provides two major updates to the corresponding phones for 2 years with the latest security patches. While for Android OS users, it is left to the manufacturers.

Is Android One any good?

As described above, Android one devices have the purest form of Android loaded with Google's goodness i.e. feature-packed operating system straight from Google and that too without any bloatware. So, yeah, it is totally worth to invest your money in the devices that are under Android One program.

The Concluding Thoughts

So far we have discussed what is the difference between Android and Android One. But, the question arises, which one should we consider buying? In our opinion, ANYONE would be a great option. But after all, we all know that Android One devices get two major Android updates with corresponding security patches whereas, Stock/Custom Android have their own added features. Both the Operating systems are great but each has its own differences and different features.
