Features

  • Ad-free experience: One feature that makes EasyScreenOCR different from its competitors is that it is 100% free-to-use(no registration needed) and provides us a completely ad-free experience.

  • Batch Processing: You can add up to 5 pictures each time for image OCR.

  • Easy and safe to use: Each uploaded image is cleared within 30 minutes from their server and your images are safe from 3rd party users.

  • Supports 11 languages: Many commonly used languages like Chinese, Japanse, French, Spanish, and 7 more languages are supported for text extraction.

Things I liked the most

The above mentioned are the features that the company takes pride in, but there are other things which I personally liked the most while reviewing this tool:
  • Fast results: All my test case images were processed under 10 seconds which is a really good thing when it comes to OCR.

  • Correct Formatting: It doesn't just grab the text from the image and give you a text file, it does more than that. The sentences are in the correct order with respect to line breaks, capital letters are recognized and grabbed accordingly.

  • Accuracy: I got a 100% accuracy with printed text but I can't say that about handwritten notes. We can't blame them as they have never told once in their site that they support handwritten notes, but as a reviewer, it is my job to see how well it does in all segments. So I wrote some words in a paper, scanned the document and used these tools on that file. My results are: For capital letters, it can give an accuracy of about 70 to 80% but for cursive, it is about 20 to 30%, so I don't recommend this tool if you are looking for handwritten notes.

Things to Improve

Here are some things that I think can be improved about the tool:

Limited File Support: It only supports image file formats .png and .jpg, which are the 2 most commonly used file formats but even then I would have loved to see support for other file formats.

Downloads in zip file: After the OCR process is complete we can download the file but it is compressed in a zip file. There might be reasons for compressing the text file before downloading but I like to download the raw text file, so giving the direct download for the .txt file would have been better.

Conclusion

EasyScreenOCR is a good and reliable free online OCR tool and is definitely worth trying. They have tried their best to develop a really good tool(and succeeded in it) and hats off to the developers for keeping it ad-free. Bookmark this tool in your browser so that you can use it whenever a necessity arrives.
