But there is a small issue as this native dark theme support comes with only Android Q, and only a few devices have the Android Q update.

Enable WhatsApp dark mode

So if you have a smartphone running Android Q, then follow the steps given below to enable turn on ode in WhatsApp. If you do not have an Android Q device, then do not worry as WhatsApp is working hard to bring out this dark mode update to its global audience, so you can experience it really soon.

How to enable dark mode in Android Q

  • Go to your settings in your Android Q device and select display. Under the display, you can find the option to select a theme, in there select 'dark'.

  • Enable developer option and click on 'override force-dark', this will turn on dark mode in WhatsApp.

  • Now dark theme will be applied across all of your apps including WhatsApp. However, this won't make your chat screen black. To have a black background there as well, go to settings and select 'No wallpaper', this will make the chat background black, just how you wanted it.
