Redmi Note 7 releasing in India on 28th Feb - Should you buy?

You might have definitely heard about the new Redmi Note 7 which was recently launched in China and now all set to make entry into the Indian market on 28th Feb. 2019. Read our opinion on whether to buy this phone and what to expect.

Redmi Note 7 is yet another smartphone in the Note series which in this iteration comes with some really crazy features that stand out from all its predecessors. As you might have already heard, the most talked about feature of this smartphone is its camera setup wherein you will get a dual setup in the back with a 48MP Samsung GM1 image sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensing sensor. On the other hand, there is a single 13MP camera on the front to click all those selfies.

Another USP of the smartphone is going to be its new design that features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display having an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The body is made of 2.5D glass that looks stunning and nothing similar to the other Redmi phones in the series. With everything looking more premium, Redmi has put a waterdrop notch to the front that blends perfectly with the screen.

Redmi Note 7 Sales package

The Redmi Note 7 comes in a standard rectangular box consisting of the phone unit itself and a couple of other items such as documentation leaflets (incl. warranty & user manual).

A semi-transparent back case might be included for sure that will come handy for a while until you get a more protective cover, should you prefer the same. Other items you may see in the box include a Type-C USB cable and a charger adapter of 5V-2A.

Redmi Note 7 Design and form factor

Note 7 that will come to India on the 28th of February 2019 will be a revolutionary smartphone from Redmi by Xiaomi within its price bracket as it comes feature packed with a lot of intuitive features. Talking about its form factor, the 2.5D glass body gives it a very premium look and was a much-required upgrade from its predecessors which all wore a plastic body.

Like most other phones, the Redmi Note 7 has a power button & volume rockers on the right side, a secondary mic, IR blaster & an audio jack on the top, a SIM tray supporting hybrid setup on the left and on the bottom side lies the USB-C port & mic in the center and a speaker on each side of it.

The back side of the phone is the main attraction of the smartphone with a glass body that comes with a dual camera setup on the top left corner with LED flash, a fingerprint sensor on the top centre and the branding of Redmi by Xiaomi towards the bottom. Below the flash is written the USP of the phone i.e. 48MP AI Dual Camera. The screen resolution on the front boasts 2340 x 1080 pixels.

The sides of the phone are polycarbonate and back panel comes in gradient colors.

Redmi Note 7 Camera Performance

The camera, another USP of the Redmi Note 7 is supported by AI Camera. The 48MP shooter is available only during the manual mode that can be toggled on or off. The performance of the camera when shot on 48MP may not be that exceptional as expected by many and at most times, the 12MP shot taken through Auto mode will become the default for many. The 48MP funda, in our humble opinion, appears more like an advertising gimmick and without going into the technical details, photos clicked on 48MP appears to us as more enlarged rather than including better details.

The selfie clicks were decent in good lighting conditions whereas marginally average on low light conditions. The rear camera, however, got some good clicks with better exposure and details when shot outdoors in both daylight and low light conditions.

Redmi Note 7 Software Updates

This smartphone comes with MIUI 10 and has Android version 9 i.e. Pie out of the box. MIUI is expected to be included with the stable version of 10.2 with a pre-flashed update of the security patch released on January 2019. All the important Google apps can be seen along with bloatware too.

Playing PUBG in Redmi Note 7 will be a wonderful experience in its large screen having an eye drop notch design and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage will be just enough to play the game in HD. In addition to that, most other resource-hungry apps are also expected to run smoothly to the most extent and won't disappoint.

Redmi Note 7 Features and Performance

The fingerprint scanner option is given company by the face unlock feature and both of them were very fast in its response while unlocking the phone. In fact, the Redmi Note 7 gave the best performance when it comes to screen unlocking using these two features and were exceptionally fast.

Speaking about the display of the smartphone, the visibility remained good even on sunny daylight. Its Gorilla glass protection, on the other hand, is an added advantage ensuring the safety of the large screen from accidental drop and impact. The screen colors are vibrant and texts appeared very sharp with little or no distortion even on the maximum zoom level.

The audio quality is also impressive and compared with that of the Samsung phones in the same price segment, the Redmi Note 7 appeared louder and more soothing to the ears.

Now, the battery of the phone is provided with 4,000mAh capacity which gives decent backup and there is absolutely nothing to complain so far. However, even though this phone supports 18W fast charging but the sales box does not include any fast charger and instead we get to use the standard 10W charger adapter. Charging with the 10W charger is a pain and takes more than a couple of hours for going from 10% to 100%. However, we feel that including an 18W charger would have been a perfect deal.

Whether you should buy the Redmi Note 7 in India

Releasing on February 28th in India, this smartphone by Redmi is definitely set to go out of stock within minutes, if not seconds. However, we would recommend that intended customers may wait for a while until the first batch of buyers ratifies on all the speculations and pre-release reviews.

No matter how good a phone appears to be in product brochures or demonstration, the actual user review by different people in different conditions plays an important role. Overall, we liked the phone irrespective of the fact that the 48MP camera thing disappointed a bit but the camera is no less effective and captures awesome quality pictures in most conditions.

The Redmi Note 7 will be available for sale in the MI Store online along with Flipkart. It will be worthwhile to see whether the phone can deliver the next-level performance as it claims to provide in the coming days. The price of Redmi Note 7 in India is expected to be under Rs.15,000/- for a particular variant and it will interesting to see how Xiaomi places its other phones in the ever competitive market.

We would appreciate your comment and feedback on this new Redmi Note 7 smartphone that releases on 28th February 2019 in the Indian market. If you are a Xiaomi smartphone user, do comment on your experience with the brand and your opinion and reviews about Redmi Note 7 if you happen to get your hands on it.
