How to calculate your DTH pack price and get the lowest priced pack
Your TV viewing is set to cost you less than what you have been spending so far. That is if what TRAI has planned comes into effect. TRAI's New Regulation for the Television and Broadcasting Sector will come into force from Feb 1, 2019, and you need to choose your pack well before the deadline.
If you are an ardent TV viewer like most of us are, you should be aware of the new regulation formulated by TRAI - the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India - to control the exorbitant prices being charged by TV broadcasters, DTH and Cable operators and the middlemen thereof. If you are finding it difficult to find the right pack for your channel pack, TRAI plans to help you out with its new application to assist you with the task. The TRAI Application to Calculate your TV Pack Price
With the deadline for choosing your pack and the relevant price thereof approaching fast, we are still attempting to understand the different prices offered by the broadcasters and DTH / Cable operators. TRAI seems to have understood this dilemma and has introduced a new application to help you choose your pack and price.
The Application works as a web portal and lets you choose your channels and their prices. Akin to using a shopping portal where you go on adding items to your cart and the total value of your pack goes on changing based on the items you add. The application lists all the channels available currently in India, including paid channels, free-to-air channels, SD channels, HD channels, and mandatory channels. You just need to choose your channels and the application adds up the price to arrive at the final price of your pack. How to use TRAI application to calculate the price of your TV pack?
The new TRAI application launched is meant to help you access the channel selection process for Cable and DTH users. The application is designed to offer you the ease of optimization to choose your package and also lets you know more about the MRP of the package you want to choose. The applications designed to guide you through the channel selection process and offer you a curated list of channels based on your choice of channels.
Here are the steps involved in using the application to access your TV price pack -
That is how you can use the TRAI channel selector application for arriving at the monthly rental of your TV pack. However, it should be noted that the application offers you an overview of the likely pricing of your pack based on the MRP of the channels. Moreover, it will be a mock subscription option to arrive at your likely monthly bill.
Once you have chosen on your channels. click on View Selection to find the information on all the channels you have chosen along with the total price of the pack including GST and Network Fees.
You may also click on Optimise option to get a curated list of channels suggested by TRAI.
You can also choose the channel bouquet options offered by the broadcasters as well. Instead of choosing the channels on an a la carte mode, choosing the channels on the basis of the channel packs offered by the broadcasters would be cheaper.
You just need to click on the option Channel Bouquet List from the top heading. Once that done, you can find all the bouquets introduced by the broadcasters and the channels in each of those packs.
The application also offers you a complete list of Free and paid channels currently available in India. You can choose the list of the channels based on the price and the channel genre. What we think about the TRAI Channel Selector Application?
The application lives up to the expectations by every standard. We tried to work with it and found the options to work out your TV price pack in an excellent manner.
Given the fact that most of the customers are disturbed with the huge list of channels and packs offered by the DTH operators and broadcasters, we find it a great option to arrive at your optimised TV pricing.
We checked the application with the complete list of channels and found the a-la-carte price reaching around Rs. 5642. This won't be the case for you since you will be selecting only some channels. The optimization option curated the list with the broadcaster bouquets and a la carte option for the missing channels and offered us pricing of Rs. 4237. Since the selection of all 330 channels was hypothetical, the saving of Rs. 1400 should indicate that you stand to gain better suggestions if you are opting for the regular channels that you indeed watch. In Conclusion
The new pricing regime was finalized in 2017, but due to the issues from broadcasters and operators, it was taken for a review. The regime finally came into existence from December 29, 2018 - but TRAI later decided to extend it to up to January 31, 2019. The deadline is quite near and the TRAI application should help you arrive at your pack quite easily.
Use the app once and share your thoughts. Meanwhile, it is the only app that would be helpful in creating an optimized pack as things stand as of now. We will update the post if we find any more such apps are made available.
The channel selection process is not as easy as has been described. There is a process of sending OTP before you start and after getting the OTP and during Channel selection process suddenly you are thrown out to start the process allover again. This means there a limited time available to users to browse the prices, packages assess the effect and confirm. We'll the system does not help you to know what is the time limit. It doesn't warn you. It does not help you to increase the time is you have not finished. It doesn't help you or remind you to save your ' incomplete' choices and in this way it is USELESS, unless these lacunas are addressed. Well I am a usability Auditor and can help improve.
