How to Sync Android phones with Windows 10 computer


Want to synchronise your Android smartphone and Windows computer to be able to see and reply to SMS or copy and share your smartphone images your PC? Read this article to know how to use native Microsoft app to achieve this.

Microsoft has released some cool features with its latest updates. Just like you have iTunes on Mac for synchronizing an iPhone with Mac, you can do so now with Microsoft Windows 10 computer and Android smartphones. To help you synchronize photos from your smartphone to your PC, read and respond to SMS from your computer, drag and drop files between your Windows 10 PC and your Android smartphone, Microsoft has released apps for both your computer and Android smartphone.

On Windows 10 PC - Your Phone app, that should be pre-installed on your PC if you have 10 April 2018 Update (Version 1803) on your PC. To check if your computer has this update or not, search for "About your PC" using the Start button.
After that, click on the Start button and search for "Your Phone". Launch the app and you will see an application screen with your Windows login email mentioned.

If you want you can sign in with different user credentials. Press the Continue button and press the Continue button on the next screen as well to enter your mobile number where the link for downloading the Android app will be sent through SMS. You need to complete these steps no matter if you have downloaded the app separately though.
About your PC
On Android smartphone - Your Phone Companion on your Android smartphone. Use the link in the SMS to download the app from the Play Store or you can download it directly too. It is available for Android devices running Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later.

Start the app and you just need to click on a few buttons to verify that your PC is ready with the Your Phone install, the Sign in with your Microsoft account on the app, give a few permissions to the app to access contacts, access phone storage and 2 more. In the end, you need to give permission to the app to let it run in the background always. You are fairly warned that this will lead to an increase in your battery consumption. You can modify this setting at any time.

After this, you will get a notification asking if you want to allow your phone to connect to your PC. Click on the Allow button. When we go from the Photos to Messages, the application asks for sending permission notification again separately for messages. Click on the button to send a notification but you won't need to do anything from the smartphone since permission is required only once and in a few seconds you should start seeing your SMS appearing on the Your Phone application.

If you don't get a notification, use the Windows app and click on the "Send Notification" button to send a notification again. Once you have all things set, click on the Photos or Messages option in the left sidebar to see or copy your Photos and Messages to and from the mobile.

You can copy and share the images directly from the Your Phone app on the PC. You can create, reply and see SMS from your computer application but you can't delete SMS using the computer application.

While doing the setup if you get stuck somewhere, there are Troubleshoot buttons given by Microsoft in the application itself. Use those and if they still don't solve the problem, try uninstalling the app on your Android phone or closing the one on your PC and starting again.
