How to Backup Contacts in an Android Smartphone

1. Backup Android Contacts To Your Google Account
Since Google owns Android, backing up contacts to your Google Account is the easiest way to keep your contacts safe. All current and future contacts will be periodically added to keep your list updated. Whether you have lost your device or it has been completely damaged, your Google Account will always have your contacts stored. So how do you go about it? Here are the steps:
  • Go to the Settings App on your Android Device.
  • Select the option "Accounts".
  • Look for your Google Account and click on it.'
  • Make sure "Contacts" is selected.

Recovery via Gmail

Most Android smartphones are automatically synced to Google. To check for the same, you can click on the Gmail drop-down menu on the upper left corner of your profile. Go to your Contacts app and go to settings. There will be an option that suggests "Merge with Google". Tap on this option to sync your contacts to your Gmail accounts. You will be notified once your contacts are synced. You also want to make sure that all your new contacts have also been synced to your Gmail account. For this, go to Settings and look for the Accounts and Sync option. Select your Gmail account and check the "Sync Contacts" option.
Finally, select the "Sync Now" option to ensure all your contacts are restored. Whether you change the ROM of your phone, root it or have bought a new device, these contacts will be very useful.
