The first week of August is over and by the end of the next week, Reliance Jio will release their JioPhones for their few beta testers. During this phase, only a handful number of people will be able to get their hands on the device. After that in September finally, the phone will be available for all to buy and use. However, for that too you need to do pre-booking for the phone. Quite similar to what it did during the Jio SIM release last year, the pre-bookings will be done both online and offline starting from 24th August. According to the last press release, the company plans to release the phone at a price of Rs.1,500 which is completely refundable after a period of 3 years. This means you get the phone for free practically. The Jio SIM will come bundled with a Rs.153 plan and the phone is SIM locked, which means you can't the SIM of any other company with JioPhone.

How to book JioPhone online or offline


JioPhone booking will be open from 24th August and can be done directly from http://www.jio.com/
Before 24th August you can visit the website and can subscribe to updates about the phone by using the Keep my posted option. This way you will get an automatic update when the bookings are open. So even if there is a change in launch date you will still be kept updated regarding the change in plans. The updates will be delivered directly to the mobile number as well as the email ID you will register on the website.
Both individual users, as well as corporate users, can register for the plan. While registration for an individual user is simple, for corporate registration you need to provide you GSTN number and you need to specify how many employees you need the phone for with the upper limit being '50 and above' for bulk orders.

Online booking: To book online you need to download Reliance Jio's MyJio app and register for a SIM there.
Offline booking: For online booking, you can go to your nearest Reliance Digital Store or your nearest Reliance Jio distributor.

According to the RIL Chairman, the JioPhone has been made by Indian engineers and they expect that around 50 lakh phones will be available each week for their customers.



Features of JioPhone


JioPhone is a keyboard based phone with a support for all major 22 Indian languages. One can control the phone by using voice commands too. Since Jio is a complete VoLTE 4G service, you can expect internet browsing at a great speed and with a hopefully good browser.
The display is 2.4-inches QVGA screen and it comes pre-loaded with multiple Jio apps which will allow give you a complete entertainment package on your phone like JioCinema and JioMusic. There is news of a special Whatsapp version on this phone.

Users will have to pay Rs.153 each month to get access to unlimited voice calls, SMS, 500-MB high-speed data per day and free access to the Jio apps. There is a weekly plan (Rs.54) and two day plan (Rs.24) too which will offer the same features. The phone also comes with a cable link called "Jio Phone TV-Cable" that will allow you to connect your phone to TV to watch online video content directly on your TV. For this you will need extra data for which you can switch to the Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan package of Rs 309.

Other than the phone comes equipped with microSD card slot, torch light, one SIM slot, and FM radio. There is a panic button functionality on the phone which is activated by long pressing the 5 button. There are plans to enable the NFC functionality within the phone by a OTA software upgrade later on which will enable the phone to be used for digital payments at NFC supported POS.
And of course, we should not forget that this phone is SIM locked which means you can use just Jio SIM in this phone.

I think that one has to deposit an amount of Rs 1500 as a deposit with the company to get this phone. It was announced in a press conference for release of information for this scheme. This deposit is refundable.
This is really a great offer for general public that such a high speed technology is being provided at such a reasonable cost in terms of acquiring a gadget and using the network regularly.
