Huawei P9 - the best camera phone in the market today
Huawei has just announced the P9 smartphone in India. Let us take a look at the spec and review the features based on a limited use in the launch event.
Huawei P9 - an excellent camera phone in the premium smartphone segment
I was invited by Huawei to attend the grand launch function of P9 in Hotel Taj Palance, New Delhi. It was a great, fun-filled event and it was exciting to listen to the merits of this all new device from the Huawei family of gadgets.
Huawei proudly presented P9 which comes with awesome specs and amazing cool features. The most exciting feature of the phone is the dual-lens camera, which makes pictures comparable to a DSLR camera in many aspects. P9 is one of the most elegant and classy phones launched in India till date, with so much power and features packed into its sleek aerospace-class aluminum unibody design.
Let's take a detailed look at Huawei P9.Huawei P9 specifications

The 5.2-inch screen and 1080p resolution have become the standard for premium smartphones. But what makes P9 stand out is its premium aluminium body, superb camera and elegant design, along with the powerful spec in an affordable price range.
P9 is available with both 3GB and 4GB storage options. microSD card will allow you to expand your storage a lot further.
You can read more about P9 at the official website.Excellent battery capacity
3,000 mAh battery will give you ample backup. I'm yet to test the battery capacity. During the launch event, a lot of people have been extensively using the P9 for a while and all of the demo devices had a good amount of battery power still remaining. All the feedbacks show that the battery can last quite long even with extensive use of apps and phone. I will share more details about the battery life after I do a hands-on review of it. Fingerprint scanner
A fingerprint scanner is a valuable feature in P9. Many people are switching to mobile apps for banking and money transactions over the phone. The fingerprint reader will help you access such financial applications safely and securely.Dual camera - one of the best features of P9
Huawei partnered with Leica, the company which has over 100 years of excellence in camera lens technologies, to make the best cameras for their P9 phone. During the launch event and in the hands-on session after the event, we tried the phones and also checked the photo quality. Within the room light, the phones performed extremely well and they made very good quality photos, thanks to the dual-lens rear camera co-engineered with Leica. Some of the pictures demonstrated were comparable with DSLR quality. I didn't get a chance to try the camera outdoors but I have no doubt the dual-lens camera will do great at day-light. Once I get the device for the hands-on review, I will try some outdoor photography with the P9 and share my view on the real performance of the dual lens camera.
We all know a camera is a camera and a phone is a phone. The Huawei P9 is a phone and not a DSLR. However, the company has made a lot of efforts, successfully, to bring great photography into this smartphone. I'm sure it can replace a point and shoot camera with its powerful camera.Body, build and design of the phone
You can proudly hold the phone and speak with confidence. It's hard to ignore the P9 in someone's hands unless it is covered with a thick and ugly camera case. With no camera bump on the back, the rear side of the camera has a very smooth finish, giving an elegant look but at the same time giving enough grip in your hands. The flat back curves slowly to the edges, further enhancing the beautiful design. The aerospace-class unibody aluminum and a superior-grade 2.5D glass gives the phone a modern and premium look.
P9 is clearly the best-looking Huawei smartphone with its sleek aluminum body. Other than the volume and power buttons on the sides, you'll not find any bumps, sharp edges or hard corners. It's one of the slimmest Android smartphones with just 7mm thickness and a lot of features packed into its slim body. (P9 is 0.95mm thinner than Galaxy S7 and 0.15mm thinner than iPhone 6s).
USB Type-C port has become a standard for the modern premium phones. Along with the Type-C port, P9 houses a 3.5 mm jack at the bottom. If you like to load a lot of media files into your phone, then the microSD card slot allows you to increase your storage capacity lot more.Display
I'm a big fan of Corning Gorilla glass, probably because of my visit experience at their lab in Corning, New York. Huawei P9 comes with 5.2inch IPS display, which is no way behind Corning Gorilla glass in terms of strength, sensitivity and response to touch.Service and warranty
Huawei is expanding its service network all over India and currently their customer support is one of the best in the smartphone customer service. P9 comes with 2-year warranty, which includes pickup and drop at your door steps. The company is making all efforts to provide the best experience to its customers. Another attractive option is the 3-months replacement guaranty. If you accidentally break the phone within the 3-months of purchase, the company will replace the phone.Overal review of Huawei P9
I'm very impressed with the spec, build quality, design and features. Even though it has a pretty big display, the phone looks compact and classy in the hands. When holding the phone in the palm, it feels light but still is a very solid device with a firm grip in the hands. You won't feel like the phone is slipping out of your hands. This is particularly important for me since I have broken 3 phones in last 6 months. More than anything else, I would recommend P9 for those who are looking for a stylish phone with an excellent phone. People who like me who travel a lot and regularly write travel blogs, P9 will be very handy since I can quickly shoot a lot of pictures on the go without carrying a camera with me.
P9 is one of the best smartphones launched in India till date and I am sure the Indian consumers would definitely love this flagship from Huawei. If I need to buy a new smartphone at this point, I don't have to think twice before choosing the P9 as my companion for next few years.
