Merits and Demerits of websites like iWriter and Textbroker

If you are a content writer having trouble finding more content writing assignments, websites like iWriter and Textbroker can be helpful. Though they provide good number of projects to work on, they have their own limitations as well.

In one of my earlier posts, I had provided a detailed review of iWriter. Again, there are a number of websites of similar nature that connect the buyers and article writers. In this post, I will discuss the merits and demerits of websites like iWriter and Textbroker.

Why should you write for iWriter and Textbroker ?

If you are just starting your freelance career online, these websites are a good medium to gain exposure to this field. You can get acquainted with the basics of writing and can get an idea regarding the popular topics and general market rate. In my opinion, you should write for iWriter or TextBroker because:

1) These are reputed sites that are in the business for quite long time. Thus you can be sure that the amount deposited in your account after completing the work will be paid to you. On the other hand, when you try to offer your services through own website, you might get cheated by a buyer.
2) The pay offered on these websites is competitive. On an average, if you are an average or good writer you can get about $1 per 1000 words. This seems to be a basic rate for articles these days (might sound disappointing but it is true).
3) There is a lot of work on these websites. Another advantage of iWriter and Textbroker is that these websites are always full of requirements. Thus you will not be feeling short of work especially if you have moved on to higher levels on the websites.

Why you should not write for iWriter and Textbroker ?

1) On iWriter there is an option which allows the buyer to reject an article. Though the purpose of this feature is to discourage bad work and writers, some members also misuse this feature. When your recent article gets rejected, it means the loss of your precious time. And if you are a content writer, you must be aware of the fact that time is money for you.
2) There are more and better opportunities outside iWriter and TextBroker or similar websites. Once you have gained some experience writing on these websites, you should move on. You should create your own website offering article writing service. If you can write well, you can get orders enough to keep you busy full time. The biggest advantage of this approach is that you save all the commissions that are charged by these websites, Again, you choose the rate that you want to charge and there is no fear of the article getting rejected and thus unpaid.

I hope you liked the above post where I discussed both the merits and demerits of websites like Textbroker and iWriter. Now it is you who have to take a decision based on your current priorities and interests. If you have any doubt related to these websites, post a response below and I will reply ASAP.

There is one thing I noticed about both these platform - both of them require native English writers for some of their projects. Also they are quoting very low for 1000 words. 1$ is very low amount for some niche articles. For example, medical niche is very hard to write into and they don't pay much for this niche. Also there are lot of casino blogs owners who want articles written in 1500 words for as low as 1$. If one does the low cost projects all the time then it becomes harder to branch out and demand higher price.

Thanks for your reply Mahesh,
iWriter allows content writers from all over the world including Indians. You will not find so low paying posts on iWriter. Minimum they pay is about $2.5 for 500 word article. That is for a standard writer and as you progress to higher levels, pay rises.

Thanks for your comment Nikunj.
So far as the number of projects is concerned, new projects are added on these websites frequently. iWriter serves more than 100000 articles a month. This means that on an average there are 3000 article topics to write on per day.
